My Journey of Crushing 6 Major Setbacks with 6 Powerful Resources Last Year
Here’s why 2022 was a daunting year for me and how I addressed significant challenges with unique resources effectively before entering 2023.

Finding Success in the Face of Adversity
Despite having several advantages in my life, such as a strong work ethic, a good education, a supportive network, relative financial freedom, and living in a great country, I have still faced significant challenges in 2022.
It is often assumed by those in my social circle that my life has been simple and without difficulties due to certain advantageous circumstances. However, this assumption is only partially accurate, as I will candidly illustrate in the following narrative.
In 2022, I encountered various challenges that I had to navigate to avoid negative consequences. These challenges fell under several categories, such as health, finance, psychology, emotions, and social connections.
Each of these challenges presented its own set of issues, impacts, and risks, but I was able to manage them effectively through the implementation of practical solutions that I summarized.
By sharing my experiences with challenges and sample solutions, I aim to increase awareness of the difficulties that may arise in your life and offer practical strategies for managing and overcoming them.
The purpose of this story is to demonstrate the importance of finding success in the face of adversity and to showcase the transformative power of planning, intellectual investment, personal responsibility, optimism, and perseverance.
I have no intention to boast about my resources or complain about setbacks but rather to demonstrate the strength and resilience required to overcome knocks, rise above challenges, bounce back quickly, and ultimately thrive in the face of adversity with personal responsibility and diligence.

Here is a summary of my six challenges in 2022 which stressed me but taught me new and valuable life lessons.
The Six Surprising Setbacks That Came My Way
In this section, I will provide a brief overview of six significant challenges I encountered in 2022.
While there were numerous additional difficulties I faced, I have selected these particular examples to effectively convey my key messages about persevering through setbacks with determination.
1 — I got infected with the covid virus.
I start with health as it looks the most striking one, considering the global pandemic and its awful effect on millions of people.
It was unfortunate that I got infected with the covid virus in 2022, but it was fortunate that I found viable solutions and recovered rapidly.
Infecting with the Covid virus was undoubtedly challenging. However, I overcame it by leveraging unique mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual approaches. I believe that anyone can get this virus. It does not discriminate.

Covid also affected all family members, relatives, and many friends in Australia in 2022. I touch on this challenge in item #6.
2 — I became a victim of a financial scam.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to a surge in financial scams as more people turned to online resources while isolated at home.
Unfortunately, even with my caution and awareness of cybercrime, I fell victim to a sophisticated scam, as I documented in a story titled Here’s Why I Called a Lifeline First Time in My Life Today.
To address the situation, I took several steps: I reported the incident to the authorities, sought support from relevant agencies, and received therapeutic counseling through the lifeline.
Through this experience, I learned the importance of seeking support from others during times of crisis. As I previously documented in a story, speaking with others and seeking help when facing challenges is crucial.
3 — I lost my investment property.
The real estate sector in Australia experienced significant challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure of schools resulted in thousands of international students returning to their home countries, leading to difficulties in the rental market.
As a property investor, I faced my challenges when my property, which I had purchased with a loan from a bank, was vandalized. The entire house was burned for unknown reasons.
The economic downturn had already resulted in the rental income from the property barely covering the interest on the loan, and the damage caused by the vandalism left me with even greater financial burdens.
Thankfully, I had a reliable insurance policy covering a portion of the loss. While the coverage was insufficient to compensate me for the property's value fully, I am grateful that I did not lose everything.
This incident served as a poignant reminder of the importance of sufficient insurance protection to safeguard our resources.
It is impossible to predict when unexpected events may occur, and having insurance in place can provide much-needed support and security in the face of such challenges.
4 — I lost thousands of dollars from my superannuation.
In 2022, I experienced a significant loss in my superannuation, despite being enrolled in one of the top funds in Australia.
The economic crisis and inflation resulted in a 20% reduction in my retirement income. I was not alone in this experience; many of my friends and colleagues also lost their retirement funds.
At this time, I do not have a solution to this problem, as it is beyond my control. Australian law dictates that it is impossible to withdraw superannuation funds after a certain age.
This situation highlights the importance of staying informed about economic conditions and proactively planning for retirement by diversifying funds. I am fortunate to have a real estate portfolio as a fallback position.
5 — I lost several well-paying clients.
In 2020, I acquired several new clients for my consultancy business. However, in 2022, I lost several high-paying clients due to the post-pandemic economic climate, which resulted in their bankruptcy.
This trend was not exclusive to me. Many of my friends and colleagues in the industry also lost their clients. In such a rapidly changing market, one must continually update one’s skills and services to remain competitive.
To mitigate the impact of these client losses, I am exploring opportunities to offer additional services in high-demand areas. I am also utilizing online and offline methods to identify and attract new clients for my business.
6 — I lost several friends, relatives, and colleagues who died from various health conditions.
The year 2022 was marked by personal grief for me as I lost close friends, family members, and colleagues to various causes, including COVID-19, diabetes, cancer, dementia, and cardiovascular disease.
To raise awareness about these issues, I have written extensively about them, hoping they might help some readers and give them hope. Writing also serves as a therapeutic tool. For example, I cope with the grief of our beloved Twitch with this story.
When I first hear about someone’s death, it is natural to feel sadness. However, I try to remind myself that death is a natural part of life and inevitable for all of us. In a recent lucid dream, I had the opportunity to meet with some of my deceased friends, and one of them said to me:
“Death is just a transition. It’s a passage from one realm to another, from the earthly to the spiritual. It’s not as frightening as you might think. In fact, it can be quite beautiful and liberating.”

Without these strengths and resources, I may have struggled with anxiety, depression, and physical health issues in the face of the aforementioned challenges.
It is due to my access to these valuable resources that I was able to cope effectively with the stress of these events.

1 — Tacit Knowledge and Relevant Skills
Having a solid foundation of knowledge and skills is essential for navigating and understanding the world around us, as well as for achieving our goals and solving problems.
In 2022, my expertise in high-demand areas proved to be a valuable asset in coping with my various challenges. I believe this knowledge and skill set will continue to serve me well in 2023, both in terms of economic survival and personal well-being.
Not only do knowledge and skills provide practical benefits, but they also give us confidence and self-esteem and enable us to build meaningful connections with others.
2 — Physical, Cognitive, and Mental Health
As a person who places a high value on physical, cognitive, and mental health, I have developed several healthy lifestyle habits that have enabled me to maintain a strong body and mind.
Powerful habits, such as getting enough restorative sleep, regular exercise, eating a nutritious diet, and making time for rest, have been particularly helpful in times of stress, including when I contracted COVID virus in 2022.
In addition to helping me cope with the demands of daily life, these habits enabled me to build physical and mental resilience and have been shown to increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which can contribute to a positive mood and increased motivation.
As a result, I can produce more with less effort and bounce back from setbacks more effectively.
3 — Adversity Quotient
The adversity quotient (AQ) measures one’s ability to tolerate and overcome physical, mental, and emotional challenges and setbacks and turn them into opportunities for growth.
A high AQ enables individuals to adapt to their environment and build strong relationships with others. Investing in developing my AQ has proven to be a valuable asset to my overall health and well-being.

It is essential to recognize that obstacles and setbacks are a natural part of life and that every living being will face them eventually. Developing a high AQ can help us become more resilient and unfazed in facing challenges.
4 — Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Intelligence
One of the critical components of social intelligence is the ability to connect easily with others. While some people may find it effortless to forge connections with a wide range of individuals, others may need help.
Through a dedicated effort to improve my social, emotional, and spiritual intelligence, I have overcome any limitations I may have had and have found ways to connect with anyone who reaches out to me.
Emotional intelligence allows us to understand and accept others as they are, while emotional maturity helps us feel comfortable interacting with people of all different personalities. Spiritual intelligence allows us to transcend our identity and connect with others on a deeper level.
It is worth noting that social, emotional, and spiritual intelligence are interconnected and can enhance one another. By cultivating emotional intelligence, we can sharpen our social and spiritual intellect and better understand the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behavior, and values of others.
5 — Financial and Digital Intelligence
A solid understanding of financial concepts and processes is essential for running a business efficiently and navigating the modern world. Financial intelligence covers creating and sticking to a budget, making informed financial decisions, and navigating financial systems and processes.
Financial intelligence is a crucial resource that allows us to manage our finances effectively, as money is a necessary tool for survival. In addition to financial intelligence, digital intelligence is increasingly important in today’s interconnected world.
Digital intelligence is effectively using technology and digital tools to achieve goals and solve problems. It includes knowledge and skills in technology, information, and digital tools for communication, collaboration, research, and information management.
Digital tools allow us to communicate remotely with friends, colleagues, and loved ones and are essential for acquiring knowledge and building skills. Digital intelligence is also essential for effective information management and problem-solving.
Financial and digital intelligence are essential resources that can help us thrive in the modern world. These two capabilities solved my problems in 2022. Therefore, I keep sharpening them.
6 — Mindfulness practices
Of all the resources at my disposal, mindfulness practices have been the most empowering and have amplified the effectiveness of my other skills and abilities. Through mindfulness, I have learned the importance of observing my thoughts and emotions and their impact on my behavior.
In 2022, when I faced several challenges, regular meditation and a mindful approach to living helped me to stay grounded and cope with the demands of the situation with optimism and a growth mindset.
Mindfulness is a key component of mental health, as it helps us to manage what occupies our minds and bodies. By cultivating a sense of tranquility through mindfulness practices, we can better navigate the ups and downs of life.
