Love Doesn’t Hurt

But I know what it does

Photo by Brandon Cormier on Unsplash

Love doesn’t hurt, it commits to you, yours, and your future. Love invests on behalf of another, with no expectation of return.

Love already has a definition, abuse is not one of them. Hurt is not one of them. Hate is not one of them. Bullying is not one of them. Gaslighting is not one of them. This is for the women: attraction to a woman’s physique is not love.

Definition of Love

1a(1): strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties // maternal love for a child

(2): attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers // After all these years, they are still very much in love.

(3): affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests // love for his old schoolmates

b: an assurance of affection // give her my love

2: warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion // love of the sea

3a: the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration // baseball was his first love

b(1): a beloved person : DARLING — often used as a term of endearment

(2)British — used as an informal term of address

4a: unselfish loyal and benevolent (see BENEVOLENT sense 1a) concern for the good of another: such as

(1): the fatherly concern of God for humankind

(2): brotherly concern for others

b: a person’s adoration of God

Case in Point

I’ve been faced with many dilemmas in my short time surrounding this. For me, I’ve come to learn that love doesn’t hurt. Over the years, I’ve been pushed aside and all sorts of things. The unit or family doesn’t operate in a way in which we succeed, thus that is called division by property definition.

I came to terms with definitions just a few years ago. When I took things for how they came out to be after observation (love, hate, neglect, etc.), that is how labeled them. Believe it or not, my life has been better, after merely walking with the dictionary.

I know this might be confusing for some, because They’ve known “love to hurt”. But let’s cover a little more:

Definition of Abuse

1: a corrupt practice or custom // the buying of votes and other election abuses

2: improper or excessive use or treatment : MISUSE // drug abuse

3: language that condemns or vilifies usually unjustly, intemperately, and angrily // verbal abuse // a term of abuse

4: physical maltreatment

5obsolete : a deceitful act : DECEPTION

Definition of gaslighting

Psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one’s emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator

Per your local dictionary

So, I don’t know what you might have, but it’s not love if it depicts the previously stated. Let’s call it what it is, according to proper English and dictionary definitions.

According to studies in psychology ( in child psychology and the female brain), love is known to:

  • love builds up
  • love inspires
  • love inspirits
  • love fights the good fight
  • love advocates
  • love researches
  • love reaches in depths
  • love perseveres
  • love is kind
  • love is patient
  • love does not do wrong
  • love is not prideful, love is humble
  • love does not get irritated
  • love is not rude
  • love loves truth

If this does not describe your significant other, there must be some sort of benefit or reason they stick around, but it’s not love. And if it is not love, run.

In my own life, I’ve known the false flags of love — and to call them false flags of love is generous. The word “love” has been thrown around for the wrong reasons. I’ve come to learn the only reason “love” should be said and thrown around, is not because of any reason, but the passion and excitement that a person makes me feel.

It’s not just psychology that speaks love in volumes, that bullet list is my conviction, too. I’ve learned more about love, too, after my child was born.

I choose to work in mental health, because I enjoy offering results in psychological settings. I see all the time people coming to me with brokenness and I reset or recalibrate the things that are true. If we say a spouse who loves will give an ear and a heart, then the same will be said about love, in general, when it comes to family. The definitions stay the same, no matter what country or home.

A home is a place of becoming. Other locations in which use the term “home”, but do not represent a place of becoming, honestly are not a home.

It’s hurt many times when I had to make the hard choice, but it needed to be done. I feel 100% better and built much strength and resilience by letting people and places define themselves. If a spouse loves, but mine did not, they are not a spouse. As easy as Dr. Seuss.
