I Bought A Laptop Through My Medium Earnings

Some useful tips and tricks to make more money on Medium. Sharing my Medium strategies.

I bought a laptop through my Medium earnings and this is the first time that I bought something through the money I have made online. Medium is like a second home for me. I have a Facebook account but never used it, so for me, Medium is my home on the Internet. I am not a native speaker and I know a lot of people could find mistakes in my writing but I haven’t received a single *negative* comment on my Medium stories.

I am writing on Medium from the past one and a half years but only joined the Medium partner program on the 1st of January. Every month I publish 15 to 18 stories on Medium. This trend is continuous. For a very long time, I am taking the 30-day challenge but never completed it cause of many reasons. I blame myself.

The laptop I have bought isn’t just from one month earning but a whole 5 months of being a consistent writer on Medium and making $150 on average for 5 months.

My Medium Journey

I started writing on Medium in March 2019 but enrolled in the Medium partner program on the 1st of January 2020. I never thought of myself as a professional writer but a wounded who share his knowledge so that people of the community could find it useful and so they could make more conversations through their traffic.

I was writing on Medium before I started making money. I was writing on Medium just because “I love writing on this platform” Sharing something you know with the people will make you feel relaxed and you learn more. As it is said “If you want to learn something that you never forget, teach it to the people”

Before I started writing on Medium, I write on my blog and Quora. Quora was a platform for me where I could write answers. At the time of writing this article, I have 4.4 Million views on Quora. Quora was my home before Medium takes its place.

How much money I have made in the first month on Medium?

I have made $4.4 in the first month.

I was in the 7th sky when I check out my first one-cent earning on Medium. I believe if a platform could give you 1-cent, it could give you $1,000 or even more. In the second month, I made over $40 and so my earnings increase every month. Medium is like Netflix, most people didn’t recognize this but the platform is exactly how Netflix works but here, the original content is from the people not from commercial production companies.

I happened to write on Medium when the platform started a new way of paying writers, previously they were paying for getting more claps, but that wasn’t a good model because, let say you are writing an “Ërotic story” on Medium, so the probability of not getting claps is increased while more and more people actually read your story. So, the new way of paying is more accurate. I am glad that they introduced it. Now, you get paid for Medium-member read time, you could learn more about, how much Medium pay you for 1,000 minutes read time?

Another interesting statistic is that if you make more than $100 a month from Medium then you are the top 5% of the Medium earners. I think these statistics are more related to the number of writers on the platform. This number will decrease as more and more writers join Medium because the chances of a writer making $100 are way less so out of 100 writers, maybe 1 could make $100+ a month, this will greatly impact the percentage of writers making more than $100 a month on Medium.

Treat your Medium articles as a Product. Take care of everything, from marketing to design to make it useful and unique for the audience.

Strategies I use to get more Medium member views:

None of my Medium stories ever get curated or published in a popular publication. Actually I never tried to send my stories to popular publication, one story I published in “The Illumination” Medium Vs Substack: Which Platform Is Best To Make Money Writing? So, to understand how I get more Member-only views, I am sharing my strategies.

• Write long-form Medium stories: I can write 2,000 words long post about the advantages of writing long-form articles on Medium. One advantage is that the Medium algorithm will make sure more people get your article if it is longer. But, what is the ideal length? I would say, 7+ Minutes reading time. Another advantage of writing long-form stories is that you can easily be ranked on Google if you do the SEO right way.
• Write on Quora: I am the most-viewed writer on Medium (Social media) topic. So, the people interested to know more about Medium, they land on my answers. I am still writing on Quora because they pay you for writing through Spaces.
• Uploading videos on YouTube: A lot of Medium writers are moving to YouTube to make videos about Medium and get more followers on their Medium profile. This is one of the best opportunity where you could use free marketing to grow your follower base on Medium.
• Interlinking your Medium stories: Let say you are writing about “Blog SEO” so a reader might also be interested to know about more SEO articles you have published. So, why not link them to your new SEO article and develop a feedback loop.
• Publishing stories in your own publication: For a new writer on Medium, this is hard, this is way harder to make more money on Medium as a new writer. But, as you write more on Medium and understand the system, you became a prolific writer. Here are some benefits of starting your own Medium publication.

Just write every day about things you know about and think about the big picture instead of comparing your earning on a daily basis.
