Medium has changed the system of paying people. Previously, they were paying writers on its platform for the number of claps they received from the Medium-members, but they realize this that it isn’t a great metrics to pay. so just a month ago, they have changed their paying criteria. Now, if you want to get paid from Medium, you need more members to read your article. The Member-read time is a new metric for Medium partners.

If someone claps for you and didn’t read your article, you will not make any money. The problem with the previous way of paying system on Medium was the writer was more interested in getting claps, now, with the new system, the writers on Medium is more interested in Quality and engaging content.

There is a mock or parody account of Elon Musk at Medium and he made over $5 with just writing the word “P”, I am serious?

But, that was with the old system, through the new system, he may make $0 with a medium story like that.

Total Medium-member Read Time of A Story

The total member read time is only showing you the number of minutes your Medium story has been read by a Medium member.

With 56 Minutes member-read time I have made over $1.29, which is making me 1 Minute member-read time in this case-study equals $0.02/Minute. Quiet low.

The 1-Minute Member reading Time pay For My 5 Stories

1. The first story that I have also shared made me $0.02/Minute member read time.
2. The Second story got 28 member views and made me $0.28 with over 23 Minute read time with an average $0.02/Minute member read-time.
3. The Third story got 32 Views in total and read by member 15 minutes with an average of $0.024/Minute member read-time.
4. The Fourth story got 59 views and with a Total medium read time of 19 minutes, an average of $0.03/Minute-member read-time.
5. The Fifth story has 19 Minutes read time and made me a total of $0.67 with $0.017/Minute member read-time.

Your Medium earning may be small but this doesn’t mean, you will make the same amount of money after a 1 year.

I have made over $5 in the first month of January while in Fab. I already cross this threshold in just three days.

So, let say, Medium pay you $0.3 per one minute Member read the time. How much money you will make if you got 1000 members only read time?

Multiple 1000 With 0.3 which equals $300. So, you will make $300 if you get 1k Minutes to read the time.
