How To Climb Out Of A Slump When You’re Feeling Stuck In Life

Deconstructing the good life

“I don’t know what to do with my life?”

“How do I find my purpose in life?”

“I don’t know what I want from my life?”

Have you asked these questions recently to yourself? I have.

Everyone feels stuck in their life at some point in life. As I write this, I’ve been in a stuck period for the last few months. Where I have been questioning things that I have done and what I want to do next.

It’s more about what I choose to do with my time, my work, my relationships, and how I want to spend the next 10 years of my life.

Sometimes feeling stuck means you are craving to make new changes and think that that’s the only way to move forward.

Yet, in reality, those massive shifts rarely lead to sustainable changes. Instead, we often feel overwhelmed and re-opt out old patterns very soon, which only leads to more frustration.

The good news is, we can rely on small yet consistent changes to help us regain our power over time. This might take a little longer, but it’ll lead to a more fulfilled and peaceful life in the long run.

“It is the way we react to circumstances that determine our feelings.” ~Dale Carnegie

Take full control of what you see online

On average, we spend 3 to 4 hours per day staring at our phones.

And the truth is, we allow our phones to make us feel worse instead of better. And somewhere scrolling over various social media platforms can let you believe that your life is not moving forward.

The truth is nobody has the right to stress you out, not even your phone.

If someone or some posts are bringing you negativity, unfollow, unsubscribe, and block whatever is in your control.

If someone leaves a disrespectful comment on anything I publish, I won’t even waste a second before I block them.

Your phone can be a powerful tool and help you live a better life, but you need to control how you use it.

What’s the point of constantly seeing posts you fundamentally disagree with?

If we spend so much time scrolling through news feeds, we can at least ensure the content we see makes us feel good instead of bad.

Journal your way out

At times when I feel truly stuck, I write.

Whenever I am at cross path, I ask myself these questions:

Why am I here?

How is it making me feel?

What can I control?

What I can’t control?

This gives me pretty much an idea of what’s going on.

I don’t have a system or structure. I get my notebook and write. I like to write by hand, the old-fashioned way. It seems to clear my head more than writing on my computer.

What I do is write down everything going on in my head without any filter.

I let everything come out that has been inside my head.

The more I do this, the more I notice repeating patterns.

And what I should do to eliminate some patterns.

The more aware I become, the more I get closer to self-awareness.

When you truly become aware of what goes on inside of your head, you start to let go because you see how you create your suffering.

If you feel you are stuck in a job where you don’t feel valued, a relationship that’s not going anywhere, or in general where you seem like you are feeling behind from the rest of the world.

Answers can help you build a plan on how you should move forward.

You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. — Marcus Aurelius

Before making a major decision, sleep on it

Whenever I get overwhelmed or need to make an important decision that can change many different things at the same time.

I try to think it through for a day or two to make sure my thoughts and feelings haven’t changed.

It gives me clarity and makes sure I am on the right path. Even if things are not gonna work out the way I expected, at least I will know that the decision felt right at that time.

The darkest periods are what have taught us the most about ourselves.

I’ve learned that life isn’t all about accomplishing things. Sometimes it’s about resting and letting things be.

These periods are no different than the seasons.

There’s the sun. There’s snow. There’s light, and there’s darkness.

Once you let it be what it is, things change because your perception changes.

Be kind to yourself. In the end, it will be all good.

Getting out of your comfort zone

Fear of failure, and getting rejections are common thinking we try for fewer things and experiment.

The world has told us to be successful all the time.

I wish failure and rejections could be normalized and let people talk about them openly.

These are things that give major life lessons and a new perspective on things.

When you think yourself into a corner, you don’t have to go anywhere.

Every time that I’ve told myself that there’s no hope is because, deep down, I’m scared, and my silly brain thinks that moving through fear will lead to my destruction.

It’s simply not true.

Choose to celebrate yourself every day no matter what.

Final thoughts

If you start thinking about possibilities, might you start to see possibilities?

It may not be a perfect opportunity, but you can make incremental moves in your life. Before you know it, you’re doing work you love.

Deep down, you already know what to do when you’re feeling stuck in life.
