GR3 provides more possibilities for shooting

GR3, in fact, the main point is that it is light and easy to carry. I can shoot all the time, which is why most people feel that cell phone shooting will be more convenient and valuable, not because the phone quality is much better, but because you can take the phone with you anytime and anywhere to shoot, giving you more of a convenience rather than a quality

Digital GRD / GR appeared in the era , when cell phone photography is not excellent, or quality still has a certain distance with the GR. The GR allows you to record your life, family photos, graduation photos, etc., anytime and anywhere. Because the GR3 is really small, I can take it with me anytime and anywhere to take pictures, and the picture quality is also at a certain level. It has various shortcomings, but it is acceptable.

There is no SPEC, 100% CROP graph, or numerical comparison in this two-year review article. I have already forgotten the menu list of GR3 and did not go through it again. I have already forgotten the GR3 menu and has not gone back.

B-roll camera for photography enthusiasts

GR3 is the ideal B-roll cameras. For film lovers, the negative is the primary photographic tool, but equipped with the GR3 can act as a light meter, as a tool that requires instant capture. Many Leica film enthusiasts also carry an M3 film camera + one 50mm lenses shooting, and with the GR3 will serve as a 28mm section, the need for a light meter.

The value of the GR3 pocket camera is that when you have put the big camera, big lenses back to the camera backpack. But then encounter unexpected scenes or take a group photo, you no need to not open the camera backpack to change the lenses shooting. Instead, you only need to hang in the waist of the GR3 to take out. By taking the camera and then put back into the core of the action, the process may only take 3–4 seconds to complete all the steps.

Under Hong Kong social environment, these two years, covid-19 period days, more time at home, less out of shooting. The mood is always not good or too depressed; I want to breathe a breath of fresh air. This time I always take the GR3 out for a walk and take pictures. Since it may be too long without picking up the camera, holding the GR3 when I adjust to SNAP MODE, close the aperture to F8-F11 @ 1.5–2M hyperfocal shooting, the LCD off only to watch the external viewer press the shutter to shoot. During this 10–15 minutes of warm-up time, the author does not care too much about composition, metering. May only focus on light and shadow, different colours, interesting people or things. Let yourself temporarily let go of the things you remember and worry about in your daily life, and just focus on the shooting. Photography warm-up is a significant thing for me. You can get yourself into the photography state faster. Even if I take the Leica M camera out shooting, I will let myself take the GR3 snapshot warm-up for a while before continuing to shoot. The quantity and quality of my’s shots will be better after warming up.

When you feel no inspiration during shooting time, I will also put down the big camera / A7R3 / M10, etc. I will simply use the GR3 snapshot for a while, let the brain empty a little, do not overthink operation, metering, composition and other things, just merely intuitive use GR3 shoot shoot shoot, enjoy the pleasure of pressing the shutter. One of the meanings of Point & Shoot is not to overthink. Enjoy the fun of shooting first.

GR3’s value as a backup Camera

This is probably my’s most profound experience

As a result, I arrived in Okinawa at the moment of landing. I forgot to bring the Techart AFM adapter and no a manual Leica m to Sony E adapter. I only get a bunch of useless camera equipment out of the door. I remembered that I still had the GR3 with me in the moment of disappointment and despair, and I understand that God may also want me to spend more time with my family than shooting. So the rest of the Okinawa trip was taken with GR3 + Iphone 8.

The entire Okinawa tour was taken with GR3 for more than 90% of the photos, and the rest were taken with iphone8. In fact, under the environment of light difference, I still prefer to use iphone8 to take pictures or video. When I use GR3, I can not overthink, focus on composition, or interact with children. If I am using A7R3 + Leica M lens, there is a big chance that I will also shoot more than travel, more than playtime with children. In fact, one GR3 is definitely enough for my entire Okinawa tour.

GR3’s street photography

The GR3 is positioned as a street photography camera, and its small and lightweight body makes it easier for me to walk into a crowd without making people feel uneasy. About GR3’s SNAP mode, although I also often use the snapshot SNAP mode, F8-F11, 1.5–2m focus distance. The GR3 is a perfect choice for a camera, but it’s a good choice for a camera. But street photography is often not need a perfect photo. More often, the ultimate goal is to capture the mood of the moment, the moment of the moment. How to find a balance between getting the shot and getting a more beautiful shot depends on the current environment and experience. There is no absolute.

28mm vision

Many friends will feel that since the phone is also 28mm, why not buy a wider angle or 35mm x100 series camera as a portable camera. For newcomers, a very familiar 28mm focal length may be more suitable for consideration as a portable camera. No need to re-learn to watch the vision of shooting. A hand can shoot. 28mm is far more than 35mm can capture more environmental things, as a portable camera to record the daily happenings more suitable. City areas have more cross streets and narrow alleys. In fact, 28mm for street photography, more able to bring out the environment you are shooting.

The GR3 can bring us more convenience/possibility of photography, rather than its quality, control. This may be the unique feature that GR has brought to us for a long time. The subsequent launch of the Fujifilm x100 series, Leica Q1/2 more extensive, quality may be better, but they can not replace the GR pocket camera status, Pont & Shoot, Don’t Think Just Shoot. In fact, the number of photos I like taken with the GR3 is far more than with the Leica M10D and A7R3.
