Lighter GR3 + GW-3 21mm ultra-wide angle test shot
I had the opportunity to borrow a GW-3 from a friend for a month or so and took many photos, so I have a good grasp of the advantages and disadvantages of this wide-angle adapter lens combination… Let’s share some opinions and photos…

An undeniable barrel change problem…
The biggest drawback of the GR3+GW3 combination for me is the undeniable barrel shift problem. Since the GW3 is used with the GR1/2, it is understandable that there is a barrel shift on the GR3. I think it would be better if the camera could provide a digital correction file to solve the GW3/4 barrel shift problem… If you don’t think it’s a problem, you can simply correct it in the post-production software, and you can continue to read the following brief afterthoughts…
In the following photos, I have challenged myself to take some line composition photos. I think the overall picture is not bad…
Acceptable image quality…
The GW3 is only 62mm in diameter, which is smaller than the GW4’s 72mm…the corners of the GW3 are not as good as the GW4’s. If you like to smell the camera/like sharp corners in the centre, the GW4 is more suitable, but for everyday use, the GW3 can be used at an aperture of F5.6-F8, the most likely aperture. But suppose you use the GW3 for everyday use and use the aperture to F5.6-F8, the aperture value that you really have the most chance to use every day. In that case, the edge-to-edge image is still quite acceptable, and the most you can do is push the ISO up a bit to around 1600–3200… and the colour, saturation and sharpness are still acceptable…
The following photos were processed with the C1 Pro 21 , TCP K64 Film Preset:
The following photos were taken in high contrast black and white with no further fine tuning other than a 0.3–0.7EV reduction, and are straight out of the camera XD
Conclusion: Compared to the GW4, the GW3 is much more compact and lighter than the GW4, giving me more motivation to take it out with me. The price should be more affordable than the GW4, or a NISI adapter would be more in line with the CP value… If you buy a second-hand GW3 + NISI adapter for backup use, I think it is still a good choice.

I have been writing blogs for more than ten years so that you may have read my Minolta articles, other equipment and photo tips in the past. It is not easy to maintain this interest in blogging. Today, many photographers like to shoot youtube or use pictures instead of writing, so in-depth introduction and evaluation may be a chore for many people. Still, I believe that words and photos have a specific value. I have many more pictures and photographs that I would like to share with you, and a little financial contribution from you would help me go further or write.
