Fourteen Days as an Erotic Author — Four Books Later
A new Page read record on Saturday, and the ten-euro mark cracked.
Yes, I am actually celebrating that I have earned more than ten euros with four books within a fortnight. Exactly 12.15 Euros and only sales revenues are counted, not Kindle Unlimited.
The sum may seem small, but for starting from scratch under a new name in a new genre, this is a good result.
Erotica is a very competitive market in Amazon’s KDP shop, and the chance of being discovered by readers at all is tiny for a newcomer. Moreover, you cannot place paid advertisements for erotic books on Facebook or Amazon. All you can do to be still found on Amazon is to optimize the keywords and publish books in quick succession. In the beginning, as an erotica author, you have to win each reader individually.
The fact that I have sold books at all and that every day read pages via Kindle unlimited are added shows that I am doing the basics right.
Speaking of Kindle Unlimited On Saturday, I had 564 pages read in twenty-four hours. My previous daily record was 393 pages. So my new record is more than thirty percent above the old one. This is a result that makes me very happy and gives me hope.
With a length of 33 KU pages per book, this corresponds to at least seventeen downloads via KU. It could have been more, but I can only take the pages read as a basis. If someone has the book still unread on his KIndle, I don’t know, of course.
The majority of the sales and read pages I record in the German Kindle Store with my German language editions. This may be because the competition in the US store is much tougher or, as I suspect, because my English versions may not be perfect.
I have therefore decided to focus exclusively on German editions for the next few weeks. I want to build up my catalog as quickly as possible and pay proofreaders later on from the money I earn in the German store to check my English versions.
Volume Five will be published tomorrow
I had actually planned the release of volume five of my first erotic short story series for today. But when I sat down at the computer today to work on my new thriller first, I got into the flow so well that I stayed with it all day.
It wouldn’t have been good to stop plotting the thriller and move on to the next erotic short story. Momentum is too valuable to sabotage on purpose.
Nevertheless, I still wrote 2500 words, so I will definitely finish volume five tomorrow during the morning. In the early afternoon, I can upload the manuscript, and the new book will be available on Amazon by the evening.
More news
There is also good news from the thriller front. One of my books has been selected for the next prime-reading round. I’ll get 200 Euros for it and, if all goes well, a good ranking boost, which will hopefully boost a few more books.
The only stupid thing about it is that the selected book is not part of one of my two thriller series, but so far still a stand-alone. But I’m already writing the second part. I think that I can have part two online until the beginning of September, at least as a pre-order, so that the prime-reading boost of part one will also pull part two along.
If I’ve learned anything as a thriller writer, it’s that series are always better than individual books. That’s why I work with series in the erotica genre right from the start.
I wrote in my last article that I’m still waiting for Amazon to set up a series page for my erotic stories finally. Meanwhile, I have received a reply from support. They want to have the site up and running by 20. 08. For my taste, this is quite slow, but at least I got an answer at all. You have to be satisfied with small successes when you are dealing with Amazon.
For today is closing time. Outside it is cloudy, and I hope for the first cooling rain in almost two weeks. Keep your fingers crossed that the clouds won’t just pass by. I hate sleeping in the heat.
