Day Ten as Erotic Author — a Day for Administrative Tasks
Friday is an excellent day to review the week and do things missed out during the week.
The plan for today was to write part five of my erotic short story series. I changed my mind at the last minute.
When my alarm clock rang this morning at a quarter to six, I was sweating through, and I had slept badly. The heatwave in Germany is continuing. It took me an unusually long time to get going today.
When I was finally awake enough, I noticed that we didn’t have anything for breakfast in the house. So I had to go to the bakery first.
So the day was as good as over. If I can’t keep up my usual rhythm, I find it hard to work creatively. The heat didn’t make it any better.
Everything I would write today would take twice as long and be only half as good as usual. So I decided to do other important work today.
I started to evaluate and optimize my Amazon Ads. I currently have ads for three of my thrillers and haven’t checked them for days.
When I was done with it, I wondered if it was really true that you can’t run Amazon ads for erotica. I had read that it is the case, but I had never tried it myself. All the erotica books I’ve read are by authors who only publish in the American Kindle store. Maybe the rules in the german store are less strict, I thought.
The covers that caused my books to fall victim to the adult filter in the US store did not cause any problems in the German store. Why shouldn’t it be the same with the ads?
So I returned to the Amazon Ads dashboard and created two advertising campaigns for the first part of my erotic short story series.
I created two sponsored product ads. One ad is focused on keywords, the other on products, i.e., other books.
Now both ads are under review. I expect that Amazon will reject them, but if they pass, I have found an unexpected way to promote my books. I will inform you here whether it worked or not.
I won’t try that in the American Shop, by the way. There I am sure that my ads will not be accepted.
After that, I had to tackle another problem that I have been putting off for days.
I have defined all four books in the KDP Dashboard as parts of a series, but so far, Amazon has not managed to link the books and create a series page. Today I finally wrote to support and asked them to do that.
Today I only contacted the German support to link my German books. I will ask KDP USA for this on Monday.
When I was done with it, I still had some time and energy left, although not for writing. Instead, I looked for cover pictures for upcoming books. I have downloaded ten of them in stock and hope that I can really use some of them later.
I’ll get back to you on Monday because the weekend is fully booked.
Tomorrow, Saturday, we’ll catch up on our boat trip to the island of Helgoland with friends. The trip was canceled on July 4th, my birthday, because of a storm. Tomorrow the weather forecast looks promising. So the tour will finally take place.
Sunday, my wife and I are invited to a pool party, and there I will do everything, but certainly not write.
But on Monday I really write part five.
Have a nice weekend!
