On Medium, the 30 days writing challenge is quite popular in many writers. You may have seen many writers challenging themselves to write 30 stories in 30 days. I have seen many writers achieving some excellent results from this challenge which also triggered me to start this challenge.

So, On the 1st of September, I challenged myself to write daily. But here’s a twist, I challenged myself to write daily not to upload daily. It’s because I am a perfectionist and sometimes it stops me from uploading daily.

So let’s talk about what I have achieved in those 30 days of writing daily.

Improvement in writing

As a non-native English writer, I have faced many problems. But after the 30 days challenge, I have seen a drastic improvement in my writing speed, writing style, vocabulary, and much more writing improvements like these.

In the beginning, I used to write a single story in 4 to 5 hours. But after the challenge, I reduced it to almost 1.5 to 2 hours. I have also applied a method from Zulie Rane, that helped me increase my writing speed even more.

Completed my goals

I have completed all the goals that I have set to achieve at the end of September.

  • I wanted to upload 16 to 18 stories in September and completed it by uploading 18 stories successfully.
  • I wanted to gain 1000 views at the end of September and completed it by gaining 1071 views and 363 reads. My reads were not good according to me, but that’s alright.
  • I wanted to gain 100 fans and also completed it by gaining 104 fans
  • I wanted to gain 20 followers but ended up getting 31 followers with 2 email subscribers. I didn’t expect to gain that much, but I am happy to see it.
  • And the most important stat for me and also for you is the earning. I wanted to earn at least $10 at the end of September but ended up getting $8.20. I didn’t reach my goal, but I am really happy because I don’t want to demotivate myself.

As you can see that I haven’t completed my goals in terms of money and reads, but it doesn’t affect my motivation because I have applied “The 80–20 Rule” to my stories to stay motivated.

I am really happy to see such results, but the only thing that disappoints me is “curation”. I have never been curated, ever. I have written 23 stories, 5 stories in other months, and 18 in September. But none of them curated in my whole 1-year journey on Medium.

I know curation is not compulsory to make your story viral. But for me, it’s an appreciation from Medium to the writer.
