The woman criticizes Pike for his lack of a weapon as a proper greeting, implying a tense and unusual interaction. This scene is part of a larger narrative inspired by a writing challenge and prompt, with the story unfolding in drabble installments.

This is a continuing story. Find previous instalments here.

“You love it, right?”

“Are you kidding me right now?”

Diera looked back and forth between Pike and the soaking-wet woman. She didn’t look mysterious anymore but rather pitiful, sitting in the horse trough’s ice-cold water.

“Wouldn’t she have woken up when you dropped the spell?”

Pike grinned.

“Yes, Diera. She would’ve.”

“You are rude and…,” the red-faced and blue-lipped stranger said.

“I didn’t pull a short sword.”

“Just wait! You got ….”

“Your full attention?”

She glared at Pike and climbed out of the icy water.

“Now, icicle, tell us what you want from Charity.”
