Criminals in Search of Charity

It was meant to be a quiet evening in the inn…

This is a continuing story. Find later instalments here.

“We may be criminals, but we have values.”

The Half-Elf Diera looked reassuringly at the mysterious woman.

“Usually measured in currencies!” the dwarf to her left bellowed.

“That is not helpful, Pike!”

“Some coin would be! Haha!”

“Pike! Please!”

With a little effort, Diera managed to compose herself again.

“What my friend is trying to say is ….”

“I get it,” the woman said soft-voiced, “I’m not asking for ….”

“Charity,” Pike joked, not recognising his mistake.

“So you do know Charity?! Where is she?!”

While the woman and Pike drew their weapons, Diera dug under the table.

This story was inspired by JF Danskin’s crime-related writing prompt and is a response to his challenge “A Drabble Challenge for Authors.”

Begin a piece of flash fiction with the line: “We may be criminals, but we have values.”

I like to extend JF Danskin’s challenge to Christine Graves, Timpoa, Sweet Chaos, Jonathon Sawyer, and C.A. Jaymes.
