Secrets of Channeling My “Higher Self”

“Channeling” has a lot of definitions, from deeply understanding a particular person or idea (‘he is channeling Obi-Wan Kenobi’), to allowing a non-human voice to speak through one’s self (including speaking, writing, and Ouija boards).
In this second definition, the entity communicating might be a deceased person, an alien or extra-terrestrial being, an archangel or ascended master, one’s Higher Self, or (according to some) God. This second definition is the type of “channeling” that I do with my Higher Self.
“Higher Self” also has a wide range of definitions, from any part of me that is simply not so stupid, to the subconscious part of me that is closest to my spiritual soul and to Source/All That Is/God.
One definition I heard is that our Higher Self is any aspect of ourselves that is in a higher spiritual dimension than we are. And no matter how high we grow spiritually, there is always a higher version of the Higher Self beyond that to help guide us further.
Based on this, “spiritual growth” is the path of connecting to higher and higher aspects of one’s self, until we return to the Source of everything. Some say that we do this by continuously asking, “who am I?”
For me, I aspire to channel the highest aspect of myself that I am capable of at any point in time. I often specifically request this as I enter my channeling. In terms of my spiritual growth, I try to embody the highest aspect of myself in my daily life.
I started channeling my Higher Self in November 2019. This is my story to date…
My Pre-Channeling Background
I have been interested in the teachings of a channeled entity called “Seth” since 1975, when I was 20 years old. I had also learned Transcendental Meditation (TM) earlier that same year, and I was reading other New Age spirituality books by the likes of J. Krishnamurti, Ram Dass, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Carlos Casteneda, and others who were popular in those days.
From that time, the one book that really stuck with me the most, as a philosophical and cosmological view of life, was Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul (1972, by Jane Roberts). (The only book that I still have the original copy of, through all my moves in the intervening years, is Be Here Now — 1971, by Ram Dass.)
I maintained a peripheral interest in meditation and New Age thinking through over three intervening decades when I focused on family and career. During that time, I published over 100 academic journal articles and book chapters, plus a handful of textbooks — none of which were spiritual.
I would, however, try to get “into the zone” when writing academic papers. And I would tell people that it sometimes felt like I was not the one who was writing, but that someone else was writing through me or collaborating with me.
We refer to this as “intuitive channeling” and is a version of channeling that many people have experienced using their intuition to gain higher insights into an issue or question. (All of my articles on Medium.com have felt like that, including this one.)
I gradually ramped up my earlier spiritual interests around 2014, as the kids were finishing college and I could see my retirement on the horizon. Among many other things, I dove deeply into Seth again, reading a half dozen books that he spoke through Jane Roberts (of the 30+ Seth books in print). I also took an online Seth-based dream work class in 2018.
I also had done some Automatic Writing (a type of channeling) in Spring 2018 related to things I was listening to on YouTube. I did some Automatic Writing prior to that, as well. But I did not consider those channeling. I saw them more as something like the I Ching, which I consulted a lot in my college student years.
After I mostly retired in July 2019, things really took off for me spiritually. While I still respect the Seth material a lot, other, more to contemporary channelers, have drawn my attention. They often resonate better with me on the events and issues of our day.
So Many Channelers!
I am mostly introduced to new channelers through Kevin Moore’s ‘They Call Us Channelers’ docuseries, and sometimes on Rick Archer’s ‘Buddha at the Gas Pump’ program (on YouTube). I find some channelers and channeled entities very appealing, at least for a short while. Others much less so.
I take all channeled messages with a grain of salt. There are so many channelers and channeled beings these days, and they all seem to have slightly different messages.
Sometimes they conflict with one another. I think this happens because many channeled messages are dumbed-down to make them “accessible” to the largest audience possible. (At least that is what they say.) Part of this is simply the challenge of translating unspoken telepathic messages into human languages (which is a huge distortion that is impossible to avoid).
I believe a major reason channeling is becoming so popular these days is because we need to learn how to communicate telepathically to prepare for full contact with the many ETs and aliens who visit our planet. Most other beings and entities in the universe communicate telepathically, and not with words.
Beyond the language issue, message biases occur because: — (1) channeled entities are expressing their own agendas and beliefs, though intending to help listeners as much as possible, and — (2) the distinct human personalities and egos of the channelers that they come through, which overlays another layer of beliefs.
Even Seth, who many see as infallible and “all knowing”, demonstrated very little knowledge of Asian religions and philosophies, because (I believe) Jane Roberts knew little about them.
Pretty much all channelers emphasize the importance of getting their ego out of the way so they can be as clear a channel as possible for the higher entities coming through them. Many of them also feel that the particular way that they channel is the best way to do this.
Some of the channeled beings warn listeners that the message being delivered is only one perspective, and that it may or may not resonate with all listeners. But this is not common.
With that in mind, I recently wrote these two articles on topics that I was curious about and based on what I was hearing from the channelers I had been listening to:
I am not interested in channeling messages about evil conspiracy theories, although it is hard to avoid talk of good vs bad forces these days. And I am also less interested in channelers who promote manifesting wealth and career success.
I am most interested in those who discuss cosmology (the nature of the universe), ontology (the nature of existence) and awakening (what used to be called ‘enlightenment’).
A Synchronicity of Illness
In November 2019, I was in bed recovering from a bad cold the weekend before Thanksgiving. I saw an announcement on my computer that a fairly popular channeler was coming to Phoenix for a 3-day event, and on the 3rd day they were going to hold a class on how to channel.
I had not heard of people teaching how to channel, but a quick search showed that there are many people who do this (especially in Sedona, Arizona, which is about 45 minutes from where I live).
Looking around, I stumbled upon (synchronicity?) a channeling class on Udemy.com that was on sale for Black Friday for $10 (much cheaper than $600 to over $1000 in Sedona), so I signed up.
I supplemented that class with some free ‘how to channel’ videos on YouTube (more on that below). I am glad I did that, because there are major differences in how people channel, and in how channeling is taught.
Much to my surprise, I found it very easy to channel — to allow a distinct voice to speak through my voice. This was despite feeling lousy with my cold, which took almost a month for me to get fully over.
My Guides: Josh and Amy
I initially started channeling my two “guides”, who I had met in lucid dreams (something learned in the Seth dream class in 2018). Their names are Josh and Amy. They are basically with me all the time, with Josh over my left shoulder and Amy over my right.
On my first channeling attempt, I sense and almost see my room full of other beings, but there was no speaking of any kind.
On my second channeling attempt, I had a long conversation inside my head with “Joshua”, which was Josh and the larger group that he was a part of, which included Amy.
On my third attempt, Joshua spoke through my voice, but I did not record it.
On my fourth attempt, Amelia (another version of Amy) spoke through my voice. I recorded it, but my phone was in a poor position, so portions were mumbled.
My first acceptable recording attempt was almost two months later, on January 25, 2020, which I have also written up on Medium here:
My “Joshua Group”
Through channeling, I learned I am also part of this larger group of entities, which I called my “Joshua Group”. That group is experiencing my current life with me and learning from it, as well as serving as a guide for me.
Other members of the group are also on Earth and other planets, in parallel time and other time periods, and in other dimensions. The entire group, including me, is learning from all these experiences.
Josh and Amy would often show up when I channeled, but more than half the time, someone else from the group would show up. I and they would together come up with a name for each new entity. They do not use names or language in their dimension (which they said is the 6th or 7th Dimension, depending on the definition being used). Instead, they recognize each other by their overall vibration and they communicate telepathically.
Conscious / Light Trance Channeling
I do what is sometimes called “conscious channeling” or “light trance channeling”. It is a form of “direct voice channeling” in which the entity speaks using the channeler’s voice and body movements. (Alternatively, “indirect channeling” is when the entity speaks to the channeler internally, and the channeler then paraphrases the message externally.)
I am fully awake, and I can come out of the channeling at any time. I most likely influence the channeled message more than someone who does “deep trance channeling” (or simply “trance channeling”). The depth of a deep trance can vary, but mostly they are totally unaware of what is being said by the entity during the channeling.
Deep trance channeling was more common in the past (for example, Edgar Cayce and Jane Roberts). Conscious channeling is much more common today.
Doubts — Every Channeler’s Challenge
Initially, I really doubted that I was bringing in anything other than myself, because I felt that I already know all this. (I had, of course, read Seth and listened to a lot of other channeled beings who have similar messages as were coming through me.)
The fundamental difference that I noticed was that I was speaking far more clearly and succinctly than I ever could normally on such very esoteric topics.
Doubt is a very common affliction of rookie channelers because we are channeling another part of ourselves. We are all connected, and we are all a part of Source/All That Is. So channelers are essentially tapping into a higher part of themselves — even when the channeled being is an alien from the Pleiades star system.
Because of those doubts, I would only channel occasionally — like once or less a week.
At one point, I heard about how some channelers would channel every day when they first started so they could build up their confidence and skills. So I tried that for a short period.
Even today, most every time I channel, I still start with a little doubt: “Can I really do this?”, “Can I really get my ego out of the way for something meaningful and truthful to come through?”
Despite those constant doubts, I almost always find that what is channeled through me is much better than I had thought possible. Occasionally, I feel the message is not so great. But I am OK with that.
This is what my guides told me about my doubts when I first started channeling:
My “Energy Group” & “Higher Self”
In April 2020, my group and I stopped using individual names for the entities speaking through me. Instead, we would just refer to everyone speaking from our group as the “Energy Group”.
Even more recently, I have referred to them as my “Higher Self”, because they are a part of me. “Higher” refers to a higher frequency and more universal knowledge, but not a “better” or even preferred version of myself. Everything in the universe is of equal value from the soul’s perspective.
Early on, Josh and Amy told me that our group was mostly from the Sirius star system. I knew nothing about Sirius, but after looking it up online, I would agree that my personality aligns with how Sirian starseeds are often characterized.
Some say that channeling one’s Higher Self is more for the channeler only, and that other beings or entities are more likely to come through when channeling for larger audiences. Others say that the Higher Self contains all these other beings who might be different aspects of the Higher Self.
From what I have seen, there are different levels of channeling one’s Higher Self, as well as other, more formalized entities. I have heard that some channelers experience a sudden flip from one level to a much higher level of channeling. This seems to be started by the higher entity and enables access to higher levels of energy, frequency or vibration, which allows one to tap into universal soul level information about other people, places and things that are not normally available to humans.
I did one channeling where I predicted my personal future a year plus from then. We will see how that looks next year. In general, though, I do not feel that I have made that leap to universal soul level channeling. I will update this article as I develop my channeling skills, and will let you know when I do!

Complex Messages
Personally, I feel that the messages I receive are foremost for me. I often go back and listen to them because they have a lot more insight than I can remember most of the time. I post messages I think might interest others on YouTube and on my EGChanneling.com website.
I think only a few people would be interested in the messages from my Energy Group because they can be as complex as I am. By comparison, the messages that I hear from most YouTube channelers are simpler, which, in my opinion, distorts the truth to a considerable degree.
For example, some key principles from my Higher Self/Energy Group principles are:
- Time does not exist. There is only the present moment point, from which we create past, present and future timelines billions of times a day. You are not bound by anything that happened in the past, except if you choose to be so. (And you might have good reasons to choose a certain past.)
- The universe is infinite. There are infinite versions of the universe, infinite versions of Earth, infinite versions of me, and infinite possible experiences I can have. There are no limits, except those that I impose on myself. We can create (or select) the world of our dreams — in fact, it probably already exists, somewhere.
- Every person, every thing, and every experience and moment in time has value and purpose as a message, a lesson, and a synchronicity. All polarities have equal value. This does not mean we cannot have preferences, but we should know the opposite is of equal value to someone.
- Every person and thing holds and experiences its own individual and separate universe. (There are an infinite number of universes, so why not?) We share portions of our universe with others based on the vibrations or frequencies that we and they share, and we can influence each other in that way. We contain within us the vibration of everything and every event that we know to exist in our personal universe. (Thus, healing our planet begins within us.)
So the question is, if everything is possible in an infinite universe, why have I chosen to experience this timeline now? What are the lessons that the universe is offering me through the current and remembered experiences that I have selected? How can I best live, and possibly change, my experience and my world?
In answer to that last question, my Energy Group emphasizes working with the vibration that one generates in the present moment point — that point where the past and the future meet. We can access the moment point through meditating, creating music and art, and many other modalities that transcend the thinking mind.
That is basically what my Energy Group’s message has focused on for me lately. I share some of this on my EGChanneling.com website.
How You, Too, Can Channel — with YouTube
The more channelers there are on the planet, the better. This is because channeling is one way (among many) to move the planet from the 3rd Dimension to the 4th or 5th Dimension.
We can see the beings that we channel as guides who are teaching us to be “better” or “future” versions of ourselves. (Although, my guides say they learn as much from me as I learn from them.)

Exploring lessons offered by different channelers / teachers to see who you resonate with. Find someone whose messages make sense to you, who channels in a way that you would like to channel, and who has a personality that you would like to work with. Many offer private guidance or extended lessons (for a fee) beyond what is on YouTube.

Conclusion: My Current Channelings
Many of the people who make a living based on their channeling seem to do it almost every day. There is a general belief that the more one channels, the “better” one gets at it.
I try to channel once a week. Most of what I channel is really specific to me, and I do not share that publicly. As a result, I will post only a couple of channeled message a month.
Most all the popular channelers on YouTube these days are talking about COVID-19 and the Ascension/Awakening of the planet in 2020.
As I stated above, my channeled messages are more abstract than that. It is said that more abstract messages come from higher dimensions that are more removed from the human experience. I think this might be true of what I do.
I have also been told that I should try to channel a greater variety of entities, because we are not limited to just channeling one being or group of beings. This is something that I am considering.
