Here’s How Alan Detoxified His Body with 3 Mechanisms Lowering Health Risks & Revving Fat Loss.

In his 60s, he tossed out costly supplements and hopeless juices that added more toxicity to his body.

The body has an inbuilt intelligence and an intricate self-healing system.

The human body is like a prolific pharmacy that can produce required molecules at the proper doses when needed.

The body has an inbuilt intelligence and intricate self-healing system that simple lifestyle adjustments can activate. The human defense system is complex and protects us from internal and external threats.

Supplementation is only needed exceptionally when the body loses its equilibrium and is damaged for some reason. Ironically, misuse of supplements can break the delicate balance and even cause more damage to the body.

Therefore, we need the support of qualified healthcare professionals to determine them by assessing our situation and making informed decisions.

Alan, who is 65 years old professional, was born a healthy kid. His parent paid utmost importance to his health and fitness.

However, as he got older, he experienced severe autoimmune conditions, unbearable bloating, abdominal distension, heartburn, and eczema, causing intense itching and inflammation.

In his words, these problems were caused due to misinformation. I had empathy for him as my 12 entangled and debilitating health conditions in my younger years were caused by misinformation and not challenging them.

Even though Alan followed conventional knowledge, he also had an inquisitive mind to discover the truth by questioning the norms and attempting to understand the rationale behind touted ideas.

Norms do not necessarily reflect the truth. Thus, like me, he had to unlearn and relearn to make sense of perceived reality, especially related to his health and fitness.

For many years, Alan believed in vegetable and fruit juices to detoxify the body. Arguments and claims sounded so compelling as vegetables and fruits were packed with nutrients.

However, he was unaware that when we have juiced, the concentrated form, besides excess glucose, might transport more toxic materials such as oxalates, glucosinolates, phytates, saponins, tannins, and lectins to the body, as I discussed in this article.

I asked Alan what the problem was with juices. He provided compelling reasons for not taking too much of them.

A small dose of fruit or vegetable juice perhaps might serve some people’s nutrition requirements but using large quantities of juices for cleansing does not make sense as we did not evolve with fruit and vegetable juices.

He articulated saying excess amounts of fruits and vegetable juices can have more harmful materials and refined carbs, increasing blood sugar quickly.

We already know that constantly elevated blood sugar can lead to insulin resistance creating metabolic syndrome risks.

However, when we eat whole fruit or piece of vegetables, the body can handle them as they have protective molecules.

I told Alan I also suffered from the harmful effects of excess fruit and vegetable juices like Juliana, who is a nutrition scientist.

I shared thoughts of Juliana in an article that explained how so-called health foods led to digestive discomfort, excessive fat gain, insulin resistance, and metabolic disorders for her.

Like Alan and Juliana, as soon as I gave up fruit and vegetable juices, my digestive system improved, and my insulin sensitivity increased.

I lost a healthy weight, mainly visceral fat. Sadly some health coaches still advocate multiple cups and even bottles of vegetable juices for cleansing.

In this post, I share three fundamental self-healing approaches Alan used to detoxify his body, get rid of unwanted garbage, accelerate fat loss, and create a better balance to maintain long-lasting health, fitness, and well-being.

His points and takeaways resonated with me because I used them in my health and fitness transformation like many other people.

1 — Initiating Autophagy and Mythophagy

As a catabolic process, autophagy recycles intra-cellular damaged organelles, misfolded proteins, harmful bacteria, and dangerous viruses to maintain cellular health. Consequently, autophagy is essential for the clearance of problematic organelles and unnecessary proteins in the body.

Mitophagy is the elimination of defective mitochondria by autophagy. When the body gets rid of damaged mitochondria, it can create fresh and functional ones. So, we have more energy. I introduced 12 tips to improve our mitochondrial health.

Alan used three approaches to initiate autophagy and mitophagy naturally.

1 — Time-restricted eating and long-term water fasting

2 — High-intensity interval training, weightlifting, and calisthenics

3 — Exposing the body to excess heat via the dry sauna

I explained these methods in an article titled Three Tips to Initiate Autophagy: Autophagy is an essential contributor to longevity and healthy life.

2 — Activating Lymphatic System

As pointed out in this article, the lymphatic system is our first line of defense against toxins. One of the primary roles of the lymphatic system is to maintain fluid levels in the body tissues. It removes fluids leaking out of blood vessels. The lymphatic system is a critical part of the immune system.

One of the ways to activate the lymphatic system and get rid of toxins is cold exposure. Cold air or especially cold water might contract lymph vessels, causing the lymphatic system to pump lymph fluids.

Movement is essential to activate the lymphatic system to get rid of toxins. Therefore we need regular exercise to keep our bodies healthy and fit. However, too much movement and exceptionally high-impact activities like frequent long-distance running can damage our joints due to excess pressure.

Alan used three practical ways to keep his lymphatic system operational, eliminating toxins efficiently.

1 — Jumping on a trampoline for 10 minutes three times, planking three times, and doing at least 100 pushups every day

2 — Walking moderately outside 10,000 steps daily and swimming in cold and salt water

3 — Taking mixed cold and hot showers, one in the morning and one before bedtime

While cold exposure to the body contracts the lymph vessels, hot exposure dilates them. Therefore, mixed showers can effectively activate the lymphatic system. Like Alan, I use mixed showers twice every day. In addition to keeping the lymphatic system active, mixed showers also reset the circadian rhythm allowing me to sleep better, as I explained in this book chapter.

3 — Improving the Immune System

As part of the human defense system, our core immune system comprises components such as cytokines, lymphoid organs, and humoral factors. These segments protect us from harmful organisms and toxins entering the body. They usually enter the body by air, water, and food. However, some of them can enter through the skin. Interestingly, stress can imbalance our immune system, suppressing it or causing overreaction.

A well-functioning immune system is critical for our survival as we are constantly attacked by harmful bacteria, viruses, and toxins. However, like our emotions, our immune system can also overreact. This overreaction can cause inflammation, allergic reactions, and autoimmune diseases like ALS, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis.

Alan used five practical approaches to improve his immune system.

1 — Eating nutrient-dense food including all essential ingredients

2 — Increasing his sleep quality and resting the body, especially after heavy workouts and stressful days

3 — Exercising regularly and moderately

4 — Reducing stress by meditating and having fun activities daily

5 — Breathing clean air and drinking pure water

Like Alan, I also invested in an air cleaner and water purifier at home.

Further Thoughts

When Alan managed to detoxify his body naturally, fat loss was a breeze for him. It just happened as a by-product of detoxification and giving him significant relief and comfort from his debilitating conditions. Likewise, I also lost substantial fat after naturally detoxifying my body. These natural practices also helped him to turn his white fat into brown fat.

It is critical to understand that our body fat stores environmental toxins and pollutants. Therefore, reducing visceral fat might decrease the accumulation of these harmful materials. However, when we lose body fat too quickly, these toxins might go into the bloodstream. Therefore, keeping the immune system operational via the points mentioned above.

Another critical point is to understand the cleansing role of the liver. As the busiest organ, it filters all types of waste products and blood. Therefore, liver health is critical. I discussed the harmful effects of non-alcoholic liver disease in this article titled Get Healthier & Leaner: Three Doable Tips to Defeat Fatty Liver Disease. The three points above can also contribute to liver health.

Some readers might ask, “don’t we need any supplements?”. Of course, some health conditions might require supplements and medication. Our qualified healthcare professionals determine them by assessing the situation and making informed decisions.

Personally, if I need supplements for detoxification, I would use two cheap, well-researched, and proven supplements such as N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) to increase the immune system and activated charcoal to remove heavy metals.

I discussed the values of these two supplements before. Interested readers might check them from the links. The key takeaway of this article is to support our defense system using healthy lifestyle habits.
