A Thought: Blindness of Humanity

Daily Dose of Philosophy

People are but blind sheep that succumb to the narrative that they see fit.

It is so easy in the present day to shout with one voice but move in many directions. We think we know more than we do and want our voices to be heard. Yet we act with no action, for we know not what to do.

When asked, of those that shout; “what ort to be done?” I fear their answer, for it be simple or none. For life is not clear cut, for not one of us is the same in thought nor action and that complicates our answers.

We demand prestige for the work our ancestors did, as it is easier to complain from behind our screens and make tantrums in public streets, than to do as they did.

Humanity acts as though it’s suffering from amnesia, we are quick to forget our past and in doing so are dooming ourselves to repeat it. Paraphrase from the quote spoken by George Santayana.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

These words speak a truth that humanity likes to shy away from. The present time we are living in is the closest to our dreams of utopia. Yet, we choose mainly to see the ills of the world rather than its virtuous.

Our history gives us lessons to learn from, not to repeat. The society of the present knows little of the past yet acts as though they had lived through it.

We create a belief in but one side of a narrative and claim justice for all. Yet the cries for justice fall short, as the act requires action and not just songs. Anyone can present themselves to be virtuous, yet when the time comes few are willing to take the steps.

“Live with a man for 40 years. Share his house, his meals. Speak on every subject. Then tie him up and hold him over the volcano’s edge. And on that day, you will finally meet the man.”Jess Whedon

For justice requires thought and reason, not just tantrums.

There should be pride in our history for it demonstrates how far we have come along. We all have pasts that we may not be proud of, yet it is those pasts that have shaped us into who we are.

We ort not to judge the actions of our ancestors, based on today’s morals, as our morals change with each season that comes.

We ort to strive to right the wrongs of our present and not of our past.

We ort to deliver justice with reason, for all stories have two sides.

We ort not to forget the gifts that we have, for they may not last.

Strive to see the views of all, for you may learn lessons you otherwise may not.

Do not succumb to the mob at your door, for they may shout loud yet use empty words.

Do not blindly follow those that claim righteousness, for they themselves are blind to it.
