A Thought: The Curse of Choice
Daily Dose of Philosophy
How do we deal with the curse of choice?

The notion of choice seems to be paramount to us, though as to why may not be so clear. We want choice in what we do and in what we buy. But as soon as we are presented with excessive choice or choice greater than five, we stumble and waste time. So, is it the choice that we want or the illusion of choice?
It would seem that it is in our nature to seek or be presented with excessive choice. The idea of our unlimited wants shoots through the fog of our questions. Would we not be happier to only have but a few to pick from rather than many?
With a choice presented within a few, allows us to make a more precise decision. But presented with a choice from many, we develop an issue. The problem of a choice to be taken from an array of many is the doubt of the choice we made. Was the choice taken the best that could have been taken?
And therein lies the dichotomy of choice, we have the desire for excess, yet we only have the ability to process but a few.
We elect leaders from a few rather than from many, as to give us time to process the choice we have to make. The more time given the greater the rationale to our choice we give. Irrespective of the quality of the choices at hand.
We elect leaders for the precise reason to pick the appropriate decision, from the choices presented. Yet we howl at them for the unfavoured choices taken. Within whom lies the problem, Us, or our elected leaders?
Though one must admit that the issue of decisions taken by our elected leaders is rather more complicated than that.
Though it does serve as food for thought.
How do we deal with the curse of choice?
Filter the many into a few, the fewer we have to pick from the greater the time given in thought of making the ‘right’ choice.
Spend time knowing who you are, in so doing you will discover what you like and what you don’t. Making a choice from many gets naturally filtered down.
Do not be afraid of making the same choice, as long as the choice taken serves you well. That being said taking the wrong choice also serves a valuable lesson.
I leave you with a thought, do the advantages of the many choices outweigh the disadvantages presented by the fewer choices?
