Shifts in consciousness
3 Ways Spiritual Awakenings Occur
Anything that forces you to look at your life from a spiritual perspective can trigger an awakening

1. Tragic Life Experience
I’ll never forget the moment I realized something strange was going on with me.
I was driving around early in the morning with so many thoughts on my mind when the time changed to 7:11 am. I kept seeing 711 on the clock. It was the angel number that triggered my awakening.
I couldn’t stop thinking about why I kept seeing the number. I had a deep knowing that it was no coincidence. Something was calling my attention. I went home and began my search and my life hasn’t been the same since. The search led me down the rabbit hole and I’ve been going down it ever since.
“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back.”
During that time, my life was falling apart. Literally. I was losing everything. I had just gotten out of a karmic relationship that broke me. I had also just lost my job. I was traumatized. I remember that I was constantly praying for help because I was so unhappy. The year I awakened was the unhappiest year of my entire life, but I didn’t want it to remain that way.
I went seeking answers, and I found what I was looking for. Seeking answers is the catalyst that creates the awakening experience. Life has gotten so much better since then.
You see, trauma is one of the most common ways for many souls to awaken. Events that cause a certain amount of sadness, contemplation, and reflection can trigger an awakening.
Many people awaken after or during an illness, a near-death or out-of-body experience, a car or physical accident, pandemics, the loss of a loved one or a job, a breakup or divorce, or a mental or emotional health crisis.
Events that shake your world, strip you of all ego and leave you with nothing but yourself cause great awakenings. When you are left with nothing but yourself, you are shown parts of yourself and the universe you weren't aware of.
Seeking answers is the catalyst that creates the awakening experience.
2. Nudge From The Soul
Not all awakenings are caused by trauma. I’ve heard many stories of people having purely spontaneous awakenings just by going about their day. It happens practically overnight. They awaken to the vastness of the universe one morning, seeing beyond the veils and the illusions.
These are often wise old souls that come into this world with a plan to awaken at a certain time in their life to fulfill a life mission and when that time comes, their souls randomly nudge them awake. They make that decision on a spiritual level before incarnating onto the earth.
Other old souls will feel compelled to pursue spiritual knowledge and practices before their awakening happens and that's all part of their soul’s plan. They could be sitting in meditation or simply take a deep breath and randomly awaken.
Some others awaken as a result of years of intellectual study or years of meditation, reflection, introspection, and solitude. It can also happen from a simple desire to find the truth.
These types of awakenings may be karmic, due to efforts made in past lifetimes. No trauma or tragedy is required.
Some people are old souls and therefore so wise that they come into this world with a plan to awaken at a certain time in their life to fulfill a life mission.
3. At the Hands of Spiritual Teachers
One of my patrons told me he is going through a spiritual awakening, but he hasn’t been through anything tragic. I asked him what triggered it. He said nothing traumatic. He’s been reading my articles and that of other spiritual teachers and now feels a shift in consciousness. I thought that was so cool!
He asked if it was a true awakening or if it was all in his mind. I said, why not? It’s as real as an awakening caused by pain or trauma. His awakening was triggered by feeding his mind/soul with spiritual knowledge.
Anything that forces you to look at your life from a spiritual perspective can trigger an awakening.
Awakenings happen when your awareness is brought to something that is already inside of you, for example, learning about the third eye or the seven chakras. When a spiritual teacher talks about such things and it resonates, you go looking for more information which leads you down the rabbit hole.
And you know what happens down the rabbit hole.
If you surround yourself with people who are awakened, there’s a pretty good chance that they may trigger your awakening. Just by being in the presence of someone who is awake and high vibrational, you may be able to awaken to higher states of consciousness.
For others, a book, a video, or a movie can trigger an awakening. You might read a book that says something that triggers a deep memory or lead you to have more questions or come across a YouTube video that immediately feels as if it was meant for you to find and that can also lead to an awakening.
Spiritual awakenings don’t just happen to a chosen few, it can happen to anyone with a curious soul and an open mind.
Final Thoughts
Awakening will not happen unless you’re truly ready for it. Your higher self decides when you can handle that type of spiritual information. Life will never give you anything you can’t handle.
Seeing things for how they really are without the illusion when you’re not ready would be terrifying and possibly lead to psychosis or a spiritual crisis. You don't want that.
So when you’re ready, open-minded, receptive, and proved you can handle it; when the opportune moment comes and circumstances around you align, your awakening is triggered and your life is never the same.
I’m curious. What triggered your awakening?
