THE TRUTH ABOUT MEDITATION
3 Absurd Lies You've Been Told About Meditation
Meditation isn’t new age spirituality. It’s been around since the beginning of time

1. Meditation Is Tied to a Religion
My little brother was stressed out. The chaos of the world is unlike anything we’ve ever seen and honestly, our bodies weren’t created to take on such burdens. Right now it’s easy to feel as if the weight of the world is on your shoulders.
I asked if he's heard of meditation and if he's ever tried it. He's heard of it, but he wasn't so sure about it because his Christian pastor says meditation is a Buddhist practice that clears and empties your mind, opening you up for the devil to enter.
“Huh?” I thought. “How absurd!”
My brother was listening to a pastor who didn’t know his Bible very well. And honestly, I wasn’t very surprised. Many of us don’t really know the Bible very well and that’s the truth. We read random verses here and there and we can’t put it all together.
Meditation isn’t tied to a specific religion. It has nothing to do with Buddhism but Buddhists are wise enough and knew the benefits of meditation long before Christians who are supposed to know the Bible caught on. And that’s also the truth. Go to many meditation forums and it’s Christians who seem the most confused about it but the Bible talked about meditation many times.
God wants you to meditate. It’s for any human with a mind he wants to control.
We are struggling to cope with life through our own strength, and many people are looking for ways to calm anxious thoughts so they can relax a little.
When we pray, we thank God, and we talk to Him by presenting our requests. When we meditate, we create stillness so that He can talk back to us and tell us what we need to know.
Prayer is ineffective when you’re always the one talking. It’s ineffective when you dump your troubles on God and get out of there without listening for what He has to say. It’s called prayer and meditation for a reason. They go hand in hand and one doesn’t work very well without the help of the other.
Meditation is uplifting even if it’s only done five minutes a day. Five minutes with the first creator spirit is something to look forward to. It’s something to tap into to co-create your own creations.
Meditation is good, and it’s for everybody. Christians should meditate. Muslims should meditate. Buddhists should meditate. Anybody with a human brain can benefit from meditation.
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8.)
2. Meditation Is a Sin
God wants you to meditate. He said it plenty of times and if you read your bible, you would know. He knew our minds would bother us. He knew our minds could lead us to our downfall. He knew our minds could torture us. “Capture rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
The Bible knows thoughts are powerful, and meditation is about getting thoughts under control. It gives you power over your thoughts, no matter how powerful and scary they are.
If God says to do something, you can guarantee you’re not sinning when you do it instead you please Him. When you capture rebellious thoughts and hold them for questioning, asking where they come from and what they want from you, and sitting still to hear the answers, you see thoughts as nothing but pesky little things. Things you must let go and detach from.
Meditate on God’s word. The stories are mind-blowing and others are terrifying, but you still see how amazing it all was and still is. “Study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (Joshua 1:8)
Why obey what's written? Because disobedience delays your journey. Disobedience brings consequences. Disobedience brings disorientation. Obeying benefits you most of all.
Stop meditating in hopes to manifest $30,000 and start meditating on how grateful you are to have all that you have right now and watch that $30,000 be added to what you’re grateful for. “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Meditate on God and all the good things He’s done and you’ll be able to easily manifest more good things and abundance just because His spirit runs through you.
When you meditate on the things that really matter in the world instead of worldly desires, it’s when you see the results. “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” (Psalm 119:15)
Meditation isn’t a sin.
If you really believe it is a sin, ask yourself, “What am I meditating on?” If what you’re meditating on makes you turn your back to God, then it may be a sin, and a sinful path is a wrong path that leads you away from what you really came here to do. “Keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your heart.”
Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You (Psalm 119:11.)
3. Meditation Will Make You Go Crazy
Meditation typically involves clearing and emptying the mind. It involves focusing your entire being on one thing, thought, or feeling, but that won't make you lose your mind. It will set you free. Meditation will make you the sanest you’ve ever been.
When you can sit in stillness and in silence, you hear better. You see better when you pause and you know better when you’re quiet.
When you feel something inside your heart and you know it’s gotta be the Holy Spirit spinning your chakras into alignment, it’s a feeling like no other. What’s the Holy Spirit? It’s the spirit of God. The Lord’s advocate. It’s the Thing God sends to move through you when you call for help.
The more you’re able to sit in stillness and observe yourself and the people around you, the more kindness and compassion you feel for yourself and others. The more kindness and compassion you have for yourself and others, the more closeness you feel towards yourself and others.
And that’s not all meditation can do. Meditation can reduce your anxious thoughts and depressive days. Sometimes when life gets way too chaotic and you don’t know what to do, the best thing to do is nothing. Nothing at all. Just embrace the stillness. “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (Exodus 14:14)
Meditation brings a state of total awareness, which brings a state of total relaxation, which brings you into many “aha moments” that lead you to your breakthrough.
There is nothing crazy about breakthroughs.
Emptying the mind and fixing it onto worldly things could have its effects if you aren’t filling your mind with things that fill your spirit. If you meditate daily and focus your mind on material things; if you focus on matters of the flesh, then you may open yourself up to spiritual attacks. It’s true.
An empty mind is the devil's playground. Your mind is never empty when you’re constantly pondering on things that renew your spirit.
If you know the benefits of meditation but fear you will lose your mind, remember the bible says “Fear not” 365 times. Every single day, there is a “fear not” so that you can stand not on what some pastor says but on the promises of God.
“The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Final Thoughts
I showed my little brother all the words of God about meditation. He started to meditate 10 minutes a day, and he’s calmer and more peaceful than ever. The pastor, well, the pastor is still in the world convincing anyone who doesn’t know what the Bible says that meditation is a Buddhist practice that can make you lose your mind and your connection to God.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)
You must know God’s Word inside and out; that way, you can clearly discern the works of the devil when you see them.
The devil is very much alive and will cause you to question the bible. Don’t fall for that trap. Find the truth for yourself. “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)
We are all experiencing more stress than we’ve ever had and lifting our eyes to God, who strengthens us instead of focusing on the stresses of life, brings us the peace we can never find elsewhere.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
