10 Movies to Watch When You Don’t Know What to Watch
You’ve come to the right place
There are different ways to use this list. For example, you could roll two dice and watch the movie with the corresponding number.
Be careful, there are only 10 movies on this list, so, if you roll eleven or twelve, you should watch the first movie number because it’s fantastic. However, if you roll one, don’t watch movie number one. Rolling one with two dice means you’re completely drunk, and that’s not the right state for the amazing flick that is:
#1 Miss Sloane
Why watch it?
It will make you sapiosexual.
Tell me more
Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloane) is, of course, beautiful. But she could be uglier than the ugliest alien creature you can think of and smelly like the garbage and my cat litter combined; I would still fall in love with her while watching this movie.
She’s so witty, good at what she does, and ten thousand miles above all the others that it’s pure pleasure to watch her.
It’s joyous.
#2 Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever
Why watch it?
This movie is crap.
Tell me more
This movie will remind you not to watch random shit you find on the internet when you don’t know what to watch. Be conscious of your choices and be mindful of your time. What you watch matters. It influences your worldview, and you should pay attention to that.
#3 Top Gun: Maverick
Why watch it?
Tom Cruise takes a shit in a fighter jet.
Tell me more
Technically, he doesn’t take a shit in a fighter jet, but for all practical purposes — and this is maybe a bit of a spoiler — when Tom’s flying the fighter jet in-between mountains he totally looks like he’s taking a shit. My guess? He didn’t go for number two on the plane.
But I recommend watching the movie and making your own opinion on the topic.
#4 Roman Holiday
Why watch it?
It’s a good movie. Also, Vespa.
Tell me more
Sometimes when you watch an old movie (1953 in this case), you realize how much of a cult classic it is and how big of an influence it had on films afterward. You understand many directors have never forgotten it after watching the movie for one of their assignments.
Roman Holiday is exceptional in this respect. It’s easy to observe its influence on Speed, Broken Flowers, Return of the Jedi, and Knocked Up. That’s quite a wide range. Isn’t it?
This list is made up, but it’s a good movie.
#5 Hyeob-sang (The Negotiation)
Why watch it?
Because.
Tell me more
The Negotiation is a random movie I found by typing the following words in DuckDuckGo: “random movie on the internet.”
I didn’t watch this movie.
I have no idea what this movie is about except for what I can guess based on the title and movie poster.
I recommend watching this movie if you don’t know what to watch, because, since you don’t know what to watch, why not watch this one?
#6 Turning Red
Why watch it?
Red pandas are awesome.
Tell me more
Thinking of how difficult it can be to have some me-time when you’re a parent, I took my daughter and five of her friends to watch this movie. I still don’t understand why but one of the other fathers came with us.
He didn’t like the movie. He was even pissed off.
That’s the main reason why I’m recommending the movie. I don’t like this guy, so anything that annoys him is good in my book.
Also, my daughter and her friends loved it. And red pandas are the cutest things. Be careful with the soundtrack, though. While it goes well with the images, it’s a big no-no as background music for a road trip. It’s way too repetitive. I recommend Sing’s soundtrack instead.
#7 Paterson
Why watch it?
Because — art.
Tell me more
Since you don’t know what to watch, now is a good time to watch one of these artsy-fartsy films, as you call them. It will show you that movies can be different from Hollywood blockbusters and still be riveting.
This movie will put emotions in your heart and thoughts in your brain.
Fun fact, the movie’s rhythm is so slow compared to the usual that the pictures will remain etched in your memory.
#8 Somewhere
Why watch it?
Somewhere, someone is watching something.
Tell me more
I bought the DVD of this movie as a surprise. I was supposed to watch it with my wife because she loves Sofia Coppola’s films and always wanted to visit Chateau Marmont. But she asked for a divorce, and things got a bit heavy, so I never watched it. Too many memories, you know?
And now that I put it on this list, I’m hoping someone will want to watch it and buy the DVD from me. You can buy it here for $2. It’s the price of a coffee. A coffee that would need $15 of shipping costs to arrive at your place.
#9 Passenger 57
Why watch it?
Wesley Snipes.
Tell me more
While you can watch this movie for the action and story, the real reason to watch it is Wesley Snipes.
In this movie, you will see a lot of Wesley Snipes, and you’ll be left wanting more. In this case, should you have time, I recommend this one: One Night Stand.
#10 Un Prophète (A Prophet)
Why watch it?
Simon says to watch it.
Tell me more
At this point, I was tired and hadn’t any good idea, so I decided to steal one of Simon Dillon’s favorite movies. And this is his favorite for the year 2009.
It allows me to recommend you follow Simon and religiously read his movie critiques because if you don’t know what to watch, he will give you much better ideas than I did.
That’s it!
Next month, I’ll be on holiday. So, if you have a movie to watch when I don’t know what to watch, please leave the title in the comments!
And once you’re done with this list, also leave a comment, and I will write a follow-up story titled “10 More Movies to Watch When You Don’t Know What to Watch and Have Already Watched the 10 Movies to Watch When You Don’t Know What to Watch.”
More “movie critique” by me
