What Inspires Baroque Angels?

I look at these Baroque angels, their eyes blank and staring framed by the slumped lines of their wings. You said that they were men who became angels because humans turned into flowers. I did not understand then, but I do now. These statues are not just made of stone; they are humans that have become something else. There is so much more than I could see before — my eyes dart forward to take in all the details of this sculpture’s angel face: pastels, textures, shapes. They swirl together like the murmurings in my mind when thoughts get too loud or sound too loud or don’t quite match up with each other at all. Then, finally, my eye catches on one Baroque angel’s face, streaked with what looks like tears. I am too distracted to hear the voices around me. Instead, my gaze keeps returning to this sculpture-angel whose face is tired and old. The composition of this Baroque angel is so mundane, yet something about it holds me back from my understanding of the scene before me. I sit down in front of it, my knees meeting the floor. I let my eyes focus on the one Baroque angel’s face. I can see each expression on its face. The way the stone used to form the Baroque angel’s face is rough and uneven.

These Baroque stone angels are made up of more than granite; they are made out of every emotion, every word exchanged between two people that has ever happened or will happen.

Baroque art is a unique phenomenon in human history. It creates a sense of rich experiences during the creation process, as well as beyond its existence.

Sculpture occupies a privileged place in art history. The statue is the first artistic medium where the artwork itself was considered an essential component. As opposed to painting, musicians, writers, sculptors are creating tangible objects — works of art themselves. Francis Bacon said that “the true aim of all human existence is to live, or to be lived by sculpture.” His following sentence was, “it’s certainly not to create it.”

Defining art has always been a difficult task. In the end, if we think about it, it’s really impossible to answer. Art may be a universal concept that spans all geographical boundaries and all times. It is always impossible to translate into a single language or culture because its edges are continuously moving.

But at least we can say how we experience art and why we need it in our lives. There is no doubt that we will always be looking for new ways to experience art and enjoy it, and Machine Learning may be one of these new ways.
