What Do You Love/Hate About Summer?

A writer’s prompt: Summertime is the time for sharing stories!

Every year I look forward to summer. As the mercury shoots up, the world pauses to take a deep breath. The pace of life slows and laziness gains an air of respectability.

It’s no coincidence this is a “feel good” time of year. Research has proven that summer is good for our health.

Vitamin D is more abundant in our bodies during summer. Besides bone health, vitamin D produces serotonin and dopamine, the brain’s “happy chemicals” that are often low when someone has depression.

We drink more water and have a healthier diet rich in fresh fruits during the summer months. Warm weather has a positive impact on our circulatory system too.

Is it any wonder we are happy and carefree during summer?

Summertime means different things to different people.

For me, it’s a season filled with positive vibes. I’m not on vacation, yet I’m relaxed and connected to the cosmos in many ways.

Each day I wake up and go for a stroll along the river. Dusting cobwebs from my mind, I breathe in the early morning heat. With my trusty parasol in hand, a folding fan and water bottle I keep my cool throughout the day.

In summer I swim regularly in the evenings. After a few token laps, I float gazing up at the moon and stars and tensions slip away. Walking home in flip-flops, it is hard to believe it’s been a regular working day.

Like a cicada, I have discarded my crusty shell and feel at peace with world.
