The Feeling That Summer Brings

This writing prompt came at a wonderful time for me. You see, as I write this it is currently the winter season here in New Zealand — though, I have to admit, winter isn’t all that bad here, especially not compared to what I used to have to deal with coming from Ireland.

(A winters day in Auckland, New Zealand. It could be worse. Photo by me)

Officially our summer doesn’t begin until 22nd December but come the end of the winter months here and it begins to heat up again — I can’t wait.

So, what do I love about summer?

For me, it’s got to be the overall sense of happiness and wellbeing that fills the air in the summertime.

When the sun is out and the temperature is high everyone seems to be in a much better mood.

There are smiles and laughter as you go about your day, the evenings are filled with the smell of people having barbeques for their dinner — an almost daily occurrence for some in this part of the world.

One of the highlights for me personally is sitting in my back garden after a day’s work, feet up, music on in the background, an ice-cold Corona in my hand — Corona is my go-to summer beer — and feeling the heat of the sun upon my face as it disappears in the west and the day comes to an end.

This to me is pure bliss.

It’s all about the simple things in life.

Yea, for me summer is all about the feelings of contentment and appreciation for the life I have.

So, even if you haven't been tagged in the original post by Lucy King why not get involved anyway.

Write a short piece — as many words as you like — on the things you love or even hate about summer. If you’re anything like me you’ll be left with a smile on your face and a feeling of overall happiness.

P.S — Don’t forget to tag me and Lucy King in your piece. It would be great to share your experiences.
