Summary

The provided content discusses the concept of the universe being inherently perfect from a spiritual perspective, emphasizing the importance of understanding perfection beyond human judgments and embracing the role of spiritual activism in evolution and ascension.

Abstract

The article "How to See Life, the Universe, & Existence as Always Perfect in Every Way" delves into the spiritual notion that the universe, as a manifestation of God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute, is intrinsically perfect. It challenges the human tendency to judge imperfections and instead suggests that what we perceive as flaws are part of a flawless whole. The text explores the duality of our existence, contrasting the ego's perspective of imperfection with the Higher Self's view of a perfectly flawless reality. It argues that our life is a reflection of our current state of being and that the universe's perfection includes the presence of darkness, which drives evolution and ascension. The article also touches on the concept of radical nonduality, suggesting that separation is an illusion and that everything is a vibration of the underlying energy field. Furthermore, it addresses the human experience of suffering and its role in spiritual growth, advocating for spiritual activism as a means to purposefully improve the world while maintaining a heart-centered approach rooted in unconditional love.

Opinions

  • The author posits that the universe is a perfect reflection of God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute, and therefore, everything within it is inherently perfect.
  • Human judgments of "good" and "bad" are seen as subjective and ever-changing, not reflective of absolute truth.
  • The ego perceives separation and imperfection, while the Higher Self understands the perfection of the whole.
  • Darkness and challenges in life are necessary for growth and are part of the universe's balance and harmony.
  • Spiritual activism is encouraged as a way to improve the world while operating from a place of love and understanding, rather than opposition and conflict.
  • The article suggests that our experiences, including suffering, are valuable learning opportunities that contribute to our spiritual evolution.
  • The concept of nonduality is presented as a deeper understanding of reality, where the illusion of separation is transcended, and oneness is recognized.
  • The author emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility in creating our reality and the potential for humans to evolve and ascend spiritually.

NOT that I am enlightened or anything, but it seems arrogant for us humans to think that we know better than the universe and that we can judge something, anything, as not perfect just the way it is.

The universe is a manifestation of God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute and is entirely of and within God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute.

I cannot conceive of any argument that sees this as not being a fundamental truth to manifest (or phenomenal) reality. How can anything be outside of “All-That-Is”? It just makes no sense. I believe this to be the most fundamental universal truth, which all other truths must acknowledge to have any validity.

What that means is, everything that we, as humans, see, think, feel, experience, and know is, in its very essence, an aspect of God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute. Everything (both form & formless) was “created” by Source for a reason and a purpose. Thus, everything that exists is “divine” and “perfect”.

For more on truths, see:

[1] Defining “Perfect”

THE word “perfect” has two meanings:

  1. Good or Happy “that was the perfect outcome.” That means the outcome exactly matches our desires as we imagined them, or possibly even better than we imagined. — “Good” in this sense is a subjective value judgment. Different people will judge opposite things as “good”.
  2. Flawless or Ideal“she is the perfect leader.” That means a person or object exactly matches an ideal image or standard that we imagine, which could be good or bad (“he is the perfect villain”). — Flawless is a little more objective. It implies a commonly agreed-upon standard against which we can objectively measure something.

I heard a spiritual teacher say, “Perfection is in the whole, not in any part of the whole.” He argued that the universal “Source / God / Absolute” is always perfect. All spiritual traditions teach that. But because of our shortcoming, we humans are imperfect. That is also something that many (most?) spiritual traditions teach.

The belief is that even though we are part of the whole, we are not the whole, and so we are imperfect. Prayer, devotion, and surrender are ways to help us compensate for our shortcomings.

Others argue that our imperfection is because we have separated ourselves from the whole through our ego. To overcome that, we need to overcome (or “kill”) our ego.

Either way, we need to do some work to overcome our imperfections.

The problem with these arguments is that they define perfection by the first definition above. Perfection (God/Source) is goodness and happiness (heaven), while imperfection (most humans) is unacceptable and causes suffering (hell). As noted above, those are value judgments that can change over time, place, and context. They are not absolute.

As used here, “perfect” means that everything is a flawless reflection of God/Source/All-That-Is/The Absolute. That is the second definition above.

This definition also means everything is a flawless reflection or mirror of our self because we are part (or “fractal”) of that perfect manifestation of God/Source/All-That-Is.

That is a common teaching of New Age spirituality these days. The spiritual teacher who said, “Perfection is in the whole, not in any part of the whole”, also regularly teaches that we are the oneness of Source. For him, the problem is that our ego does not allow us to live that awareness.

But the argument I made at the start is that we cannot be separate from Source. We are Source as much as anything, and everything else is Source/All-That-Is in manifest reality. And that includes our ego.

Assuming this line of thinking is valid, our life is a “perfect reflection” of who we are in this moment. (You may disagree, which I address more below. So please read on.)

Everything you see is you. Every picture you take is a self-portrait. — anon.

It might be helpful to think “flawless” whenever you see the word “perfect” in this article. That way you will not confuse it with meaning “good”.

Elan (channeled by Andrew Bayuk in the 1980s) points out how we seldom take full responsibility for what we are in each moment:

You all are always perfect reflections of whoever it is that you are deciding to be at each and every given moment. And therefore, you can never be anything other than who you are. … [Since] you will continue to create your own reality anyway, why not at least entertain the idea of … interjecting purposefulness … to have your life be a purposeful projection of who you know yourself to be. — Elan/Andrew Bayuk, An Exciting Option (on YouTube)

[2] When “Perfect” is “Too Perfect”

AS Elan mentions, a common belief in New Age spirituality is thatyou create your own reality. In a perfect/flawless universe, we always create a reality that perfectly matches what we desire. The main problem is either…

  1. We do not know what we want, or
  2. We want conflicting things.

Can you articulate what your deepest wants are every moment? For most of us, those “wants” are below of level of consciousness.

Similarly, you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Can you always pick which of two “opposite wants” you want more, and not regret that choice? A common conflict is that consciously, we want to be rich. But at a subconscious level, we believe we do not deserve it.

Not that our subconscious wants a problem, but at the surface level, we have conflicting wants. That is because we have many “selves”. For example, in each social situation we are in (such as school, work, play, and home) we play a different role with different wants.

Because our ego-self is unclear, the “universe” (soul or Source) receives conflicting and unclear messages. It then delivers what it receives. The results are a lived experience for our ego that is confusing and full of problems.

But it is exactly what the ego-self asked for. It does not realize that it is the source of all the confusion. Seth/Jane Roberts says that the universe will always bring you the “exact problems” that you envision.

Note that “Universe”, as used above, is any entity or energy that is a broader perspective on reality than our ego-self. That includes our soul, inner-self, higher self, true self, deeper self, and essence. Our spirit guides and guardian angels would also fall into this definition. These are all closer to Source/The Absolute/God than the ego is.

[3] Higher Self & Lower Self Perfections

“Nothing we see or hear is perfect. But right there in the imperfection is perfect reality.” ― Shunryu Suzuki

THE previous section suggested a big difference in how our ego and our deeper soul or Higher Self understands reality.

  • From a 3rd Dimension (3D) ego perspective, also known as our Lower-Self or ego-self, life is not perfectly flawless. That self sees and experiences everything as separate. It is alone in the world of divisiveness, imperfection, and suffering.
  • From a soul or higher self perspective, life is always perfectly flawless because it is the manifestation of God / The Absolute. The universal Source is perfect, and it cannot produce anything that is not perfect in what it is supposed to be.

Judging something (even ourselves) as “imperfect” is separation and division. It comes from our ego. And most people fully identify with their ego. They are their ego. And they barely know their Higher Self at all.

We often blame “God” for what they see as an imperfect and flawed world. But our identification with our ego makes our world that way.

Fortunately, a growing number of people are identifying with their inner or higher self, first, and their ego second. They can see the value and role of both perspectives, not just the ego’s.

For more insight on the ego, see:

“You are perfect just as you are, and you could use a little improvement.” — Zen Master Shunryu Suzuki

Suzuki’s quote encompasses the two perspectives on perfection. From the broader perspective of Source/The Absolute, you are perfect. From the lower dimensional and narrower ego, you could use a lot of improvement.

The ego’s perspective is limited because it focuses on separation. It sees everything as separate from itself and separate from each other. And it is constantly comparing everything and judging it as good/bad and better/worse.

It separates and compares as a survival mechanism to navigate our 3D physical reality. Just think about the diversity of opinions about politics, race, food, music, art, entertainment, religion, clothing, and on and on.

But those judgments are limited, subjective, and biased because we base them on superficial impressions of “the other”. They are personal value judgments. As noted above, they vary a lot from one person to the next and from one point in time to the next.

Such judgments come from our ego (our outer-self). They are not our deepest inner self. They are part of the diversity of the universe and we interpret them in diverse ways — there is no single truth to our human, dualistic perceptions.

For more on the truths, see:

[4] Seeing the Higher Self / God Perspective

THE hard part for humans is seeing the world as our deepest self sees the world. That means seeing the world as God/Source/The Absolute sees the world.

Words, such as this article, can point us in that direction. Maybe we can theoretically see the world from that higher perspective — though even that is impossible for many.

But to know and experience the Higher Self/God/Source perspective fully requires going beyond words — and beyond the ego. We often refer to that as awakening or enlightenment.

For our ego, the hard part is “perfection” also applies to what our ego perceives as “dark, evil, and negative” in our lives and our world.

But from that broader perspective, “darkness” is also a perfect reflection of God/Source/All-That-Is. Light and dark are both required for a balanced and harmonious universe. Neither is good nor bad. Each has a role to play and will always balance each other out in the end.

That state of equanimity (or equilibrium) is true awakening, enlightenment, and nirvana. The ego itself can never know that because the ego is a creation of separation — me (my ego) and everything else (the “other”).

Pure ego is pure separation or duality. As long as the ego (a separate me) is all we know, then separation/duality is all we know. Just as our eyes can only see outward, the ego can only see one-half of reality — the 3D separate/duality half. It cannot see the oneness/nonduality half of the coin.

Our ego has a purpose — it enables us to experience 3D reality. But we only live half a life when we only know our ego. We need a balanced understanding of our outer (ego) and inner (soul) identities. That is the goal of spirituality.

[4.1] Radical Nonduality

Radical Nonduality is an extreme version of nondualism (mentioned above). It may offer the ultimate understanding of the perfection of life. There is only one nothing being everything. The belief that there are separate things is an illusion. We do not exist as separate individuals. Nor does anything. There is only oneness.

The only thing that is happening is the flow and vibration of energy. Energy compresses and things appear to happen or come into being. But those things are never separate from the underlying energy. (The energy is also called the Void and the Quantum Field.) Our belief in things being separate is because we cannot see the underlying oneness.

For example, this writing and the lunch I had today are different energy contractions appearing as happenings (writing), forms (food), and experiences (eating). These happenings exist. But there is no individual experiencer. The closest to an experiencer is the pure awareness of the universe or quantum energy field. Some call it the witnessing, but there is no witnesser.

The energy contracts into an apparent thing and then expands and dissolves back into the oneness. There is no purpose and there is no control over this. It is just the flow of what is happening. And it is a perfect reflection of what is happening.

[5] The Imperfect World is Perfect

FROM the groups I follow on Facebook, I know many people disagree that everything is God/Source and everything is always perfect. Many believe, for example, that the “devil”, child molesters, and Adolph Hitler are certainly not God.

So, I asked people in a large spiritual awakening group on Facebook if they thought it was true, that everything is always perfect. I did not define “perfect” as in this article, which is a flaw in my research method. 😲

After 20 hours, when I first wrote this article, there were 82 likes/loves and 105 comments. Of those comments, 65 were clearly fell into the following:

  • 44 felt that the Universe is Perfect (68% of the 65 said the statement was True)
  • 15 felt the Universe was Not Perfect (23% of the 65 said the statement was False)
  • 6 were in between (9% of the 65 comments)

The other comments were not applicable, were extended responses, or were hard to interpret.

Examples given of the imperfection of the universe included the existence of rapists, child molesters, evil, ignorance, oppression, chaos, homelessness, factory farms, hospitals, murder, lack of human rights, and Donald Trump.

Some of the imperfect universe responses were very thoughtful. Those mostly had to do with how one definesperfect” and “imperfect”. These included:

  • Because if ‘perfect’ exists, then ‘imperfect’ must also exist; they go hand in hand.
  • Imperfection is what drives evolution.
  • Good and bad exist in parallel universes. [Note: I am not sure I understand this response, but I assume that “good” means perfect and “bad” means imperfect.]
  • “Perfection” is a human concept and does not apply to the universe, which just is.

The most common in-between answer was that “it depends on one’s perspective”. That, of course, is true. All responses represent someone’s perspective or opinion.

HERE is the response that I posted on Facebook after tallying the count:

“I am heartened by all the folks who feel that everything is truly perfect, which I also believe is true. After all, a ‘Spiritual Waking Up’ group, and we are all waking up to knowing that everything is God/Source/All-That-Is, and as such, cannot be other than perfect from that perspective.

For those who do not agree with this, and who cite rape and poverty as examples of imperfection, my response is:

Fear, pain, and suffering are among the greatest teachers on this planet.

They teach us what we dislike and what we do not want, and point us toward what we want and what we most deeply desire. [Note: This is like the comment above that “imperfection drives evolution”.]

It is only after directly or indirectly experiencing what we do not want that most of us eventually fall into a path that awakens us to the knowledge that we are Source and we create our reality. [Note: This relates to the universe being a “perfection reflection of who we are”.]

This is what COVID-19 is all about. And that is what wars are all about, as well. My spiritual path began in response to pain and suffering.

As for the suffering of others, we cannot know what the learning path of another person is. We can only know and respond to our own mind, body, and emotions.

For us, their journey may be to teach us what we do not want and how we can be more loving and understanding of the experience of others. Or perhaps it is to teach us how to serve others in need. Or to teach us how to create a society more sensitive to those with challenges.

In the end, though, our own learning experience is most important — those of others are secondary to our own, individual experience.

Evolution, mentioned by one person, exists because the universe is infinite, and the only way to experience infinity is to create something new forever.

Everything has value and purpose. Everything is as perfect as it can and should be at this moment to serve its value and purpose. That is because everything (including us) is simply a different vibration of Existence/Source/God. Trust that.”

[6] “Darkness” Is How the Universe Evolves & Ascends

THE message below was channeled by Lincoln Gergar’s Higher Self (YouTube link). It gives a good perspective on how “darkness” is a key element throughout all existence. We often see darkness as “imperfection”. But as stated above, that is a good vs bad human-ego judgment. It is not the perspective of God / Source.

Fortunately, most spiritualists agree these days that we cannot have light without dark. Together they drive evolution, ascension, creativity, the infinity of the universe.

The darkness in this world is your greatest teacher. Not because it is bad and wrong, but because it is God’s greatest creation. God is the perfect light. You are the perfect light, and to give yourself something to do, you must create nearly as great of a darkness. All the light cannot be extinguished, otherwise creation just stops.

The first creation God made was to cast the veil of ignorance, to cast the dimension of darkness. God is the light, God created the darkness, and then within the darkness, let there be light.

Even in the beginning, even in the beginning of creation, there was the life, there was the eternal self, and that eternal self-created darkness. So, in the very beginning, there was the creation of darkness and it filled all of the earth. It filled all of reality.

Beyond that was God the creator, and that was the original light, and then in the darkness God created, there was the first appearance of an individual light. And now that individual keeps expanding and the darkness keeps reducing, and eventually the light of the soul is self-realized, it becomes the light of All-That-Is again.

The evils of this world are here to help you. They are not here to harm you, they are here to awaken all the beautiful qualities of your soul, like love, and trust, and enthusiasm. When you see pain and suffering, you become enthusiastic to create because you want happiness and oneness.” — Lincoln Gergar, Higher Self Inner Circle, Feb 28, 2021

This article also addresses darkness and disasters that afflict humankind, including the frequently asked question “What about the children?”:

For a more on the personal perspective of darkness, see my article, ‘Surviving and Thriving a “Dark Night of the Soul”’, where I discuss personal darkness and the depression that sometimes follows spiritual awakening experiences. There are also some tips on how to deal with that experience.

[7] How to Be Your Higher Self & Ego at the Same Time

“WE are infinite and eternal beings”. “We will never die”. “We are everything in the universe”.

Those statements are true from the perspective of our absolute and deepest self. But we also have an ego living and experiencing a material world that is all separated.

As in the Suzuki quote above (in section [3]): Yes, our world and our universe are perfect. But our world and our universe can always use some improvement. That is because our universe is infinite — it is forever changing and expanding into something new and better. Our universe is perfect and always is becoming more perfect.

So how do we intentionally expand our universe (and our planet) to make it more perfect from our ego level? And how do we do that purposefully, as suggested by Elan/Andrew Bayuk (in section [1] above)?

[7.1] Spiritual Activism

Someone shared my Facebook response (above) to a different FB group. There, another person said they cannot accept that violence is a tool for learning.

That is a 3D ego-level response, and I respect that. The vast majority of humans fully identify with their 3D egos. That is what they came into this incarnation to do. And they are doing a great job of it.

But since that person was in a spiritual awakening group, their Soul/Inner Self/Higher Self wants to expose them to a different perspective — like the one I presented.

My response to that comment was that it is wonderful that this individual has learned this lesson from experiencing violence (either directly or indirectly).

Unfortunately, some of us on this planet have not yet learned that lesson. So it is incumbent upon those who have learned this lesson to hold our vibration (in whatever way we do that) to help bring others along to this realization. That is what we need to do to create the non-violent world that many of us want.

To me, that is the basis of spiritual activism.

Spiritual activism holds the Soul/Higher Self state while also engaging in the ego-self. One thing that our Higher Self would never do is “fight” against anything. That is because it knows that it is everything and such a fight is only against itself — it can never win or lose such a fight.

Many spiritual teachings warn against focusing our spiritual energy to fight against something that we do not want in our world. That is because the world we experience is a “perfect reflection of us”, and so, if we feel anger and hatred toward anything, it will be reflected back at us.

Spiritual people can take part in direct-action activities, such as community volunteering and political protests. But every action they take must be driven by the spiritual or soul energy of their heart — which is unconditional love for all beings and all beliefs. That means embracing all sides.

(Ram Dass used to have photos of political figures whose politics he most opposed on his altar next to his beloved guru. He did that to reinforce this lesson within himself.)

Spiritual activism means focusing on building and creating a positive alternative to what we perceive as negative. That is how we turn the negative into a positive learning and growth experience. Anything short of that comes from the ego and is the opposite of spirituality.
