Summary

The main characters, "you" and Dara, are on a mission to rescue "your" family and decide to prioritize reaching the enemy base, the "heart of darkness."

Abstract

The story is part of a "choose your own" fiction story, "drabble edition." The main characters, "you" and Dara, are in a forest and decide to prioritize reaching the enemy base, the "heart of darkness," to rescue "your" family. They run through the trees, with "your" bow readied, and pause to catch their breath. They hear a ruckus and see fires at the main camp, and Dara suggests taking out any guards. The story then presents two options for the reader to choose from: splitting up and taking care of the orc guards and stragglers, or persuading Dara to attack the main camp without delay.

“Agreed. Our priority is the base,” you say, hurrying past Dara. “The heart of darkness.”

“What about…?”

You keep moving. “We need to go. There’s still a chance to rescue my family.”

She glances back, then nods.

You begin to run through the trees, your bow readied. The cliffs ahead are enormous, rising out of the trees like a small mountain. Dark. spiky and scarred.

You pause for a moment, breathing hard. Wipe sweat from your brow. You can hear a ruckus, and see fires at their main camp.

“We should…” Dara begins.

“Attack?”

“…take out any guards,” she finishes.
