This Tweet from Dr. Lufkin Opened My Eyes and Gave Me an Aha Moment.

Excellent guidance from a medical doctor and educator to understand the value of our family physicians.

In this short post, I’d like to share an educative tweet from a medical doctor and educator giving us a valuable life hack in a single sentence. Reading this tweet was an aha moment for me.

Robert Lufkin M.D.is a medical school professor with an interest in genetics, technology, artificial intelligence, optimal health, longevity, and consciousness.

His tweets always give me aha moments, as described by Dr Mehmet Yildiz in this story titled Here’s Why I Love “Aha! Moments” and How I Create Them Intentionally.

I previously wrote about one of Dr. Lufkin’s insightful tweets. Here is the link to the previous story if you missed it.

The previous tweet was, “What if your doctor told you this? Before we prescribe drugs, let’s remove sugar, grains & seed oils from your diet, correct nutritional deficiencies, remove any toxins that may be present, & begin some strength training and sleep exercises…….”

The new tweet is also about choosing our family doctors based on clear criteria.

Dr Lufkin says:

“If your doctor prescribes medication without first asking about your diet, your sleep, your exercise routine, your water consumption, whether you have any structural issues, and the stress in your life, then you don’t have a doctor, you have a drug dealer.”

Here is the link to the eye-opening tweet you may like, comment on, and retweet to create more awareness on this important point.

He created a meaningful and powerful message.

I don’t want my family doctor to be “a drug dealer.”

Of course, this statement from Dr. Lufkin is metaphorical for educative purposes. We can’t expect our trained and caring doctors to be drug dealers and cannot compare them to uncaring people in real life.

However, this statement gives an important criterion and invites us to assess the value of our physicians.

This implies that we don’t want our doctors to prescribe unnecessary or harmful medications or to prioritize profit over our health.

In other words, the metaphor suggests that a doctor must prioritize health and well-being rather than simply prescribing medications. This is a similar concept to how drug dealers might prioritize their profits over the well-being of their customers.

An example could be a doctor who frequently prescribes opioids or other addictive medications without adequately evaluating the patient’s needs or considering alternative treatments.

This undesirable action might lead to patients becoming addicted or suffering from harmful side effects.

In contrast, a good doctor would take the time to understand the patient’s medical history, evaluate their symptoms, and consider various treatment options, including lifestyle changes and non-pharmacological therapies.

But some of us need medication of course, for various reasons. In my opinion, medication must be given only if lifestyle factors don’t work. I believe reasonable healthcare professionals also have this understanding therefore, Dr Lufkin highlights this point so articulately.

Researching and choosing a doctor who values holistic health and takes a patient-centered approach to treatment is essential.

In addition, we must communicate openly with our doctors about our concerns and preferences, and seek second opinions if we feel that our doctor’s recommendations are not in our best interest.

I believe that maintaining a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management can reduce the need for medications and support a healthier body and mind.

Health is my priority in life. Our family doctors play a critical role therefore we must choose them carefully to support our health and well-being.

If you have such aha moments on social media, please share them in the comment section of this story.

Talking of social media, I have a new project on YouTube to raise the profiles of writers and create visibility for their stories. To this end, I posted a new YouTube video and shared the transcript in a short article. I look forward to your feedback and engagement in this new initiative.
