This is Why Spiritual Awakening Brings So Much Pain

It is only in hindsight that you see the hidden blessings

I still remember the pain I felt at the beginning of my own spiritual awakening. I remember when the scales were falling off from my eyes and I could see reality for what it really was. When the rose-colored glasses I refused to stop wearing were stripped off my face, I was forced to see my life as the mess that it had become.

Everything I thought I knew was a lie. I had never felt a pain like that before. It was a pain that was there to kill the old me and death is never comfortable. As I felt the skin on my body being ripped off by the truth, I was forced to evolve and evolution also is uncomfortable.

But it was the war between my spirit, which was ready to take over, and my ego, which was stuck in old timelines and refused to let go of control that was the most painful.

The moment you awaken and embrace your spirituality, a war begins inside you. Your spirit wants to awaken despite all the pain that lies ahead and your flesh wishes you to go back to sleep to avoid all that pain.

Before an awakening, a person is led mostly by their flesh or ego. After the awakening, the spirit within the body takes the lead, which means the ego starts to lose control.

The ego is controlling. It hates to lose control and will do anything to stay in control. The ego can even make you think you’re going crazy all in an effort to get you to give up your awakening and just go back to sleep.

But the spirit is the part of you that is closer to God and, therefore, knows a much better way. When the ego won’t let go of control, the experience for the person is like being pulled down into a dark abyss with nothing to hold on to.

The spirit always wins in the end and a scheduled spiritual awakening will take place no matter how hard the flesh fights the pain.

The flesh fights the spirit because the things of the spirit are too serious. Where the flesh wants to go to sleep, the spirit wants to stay awake and pray or meditate. Where the flesh wants to scroll on the phone, the spirit wants to read and learn.

The flesh which seeks the fun things out of life would rather die than allow the seriousness of the spirit to take the fun out of life.

A spiritual awakening will take place no matter how hard you fight the pain.

The reason the ego does all this is that it wants to protect you. It knows the pain that is coming when you start to learn the truth will be unbearable and wants to avoid it at all costs. The ego would rather pull a blind over its eyes than sit with the pain and see the truth of reality.

The ego perceives emotional pain the same way the body perceives flame. When you approach a flame and put your hand on it, it recoils. This is a natural protective instinct. The spirit, on the other hand, sees pain as the pathway to healing.

Pain is the pathway and there’s no other way around it. There’s no other way to find wisdom except through the pain of being wounded. The pain and suffering shed layers of the ego until the illusions disappear and what you have is nothing but the truth.

Many people who have experienced an awakening have gone through a great deal of pain and suffering in their lives. Pain and suffering truly are the pathways to wisdom and freedom. They balance out karmic debts and hence speed up soul evolution. The quicker the karmic debts are paid, the quicker the spiritual transformation and soul evolution.

This is why some souls choose a painful life path. It all depends on what you wish to learn and the wisdom you want to gain.

The fastest way to evolve is to go through a vast array of life experiences that enrich and make you wiser. The more painful the experience, the more wisdom you’re able to gather.

If you’ve recently experienced a spiritual awakening, you may have felt like you were losing your old identity. This loss of identity is what feels like death. You’re dying a slow death of all the false narrative, societal programming, and conditioning you have held on to. It can feel like you’re dying of your old self. You may not even know who you are anymore and how you fit into this world. The dissolution of all that you think you are is painfully uncomfortable.

It’s normal that you feel pain as you die to your old self. Death brings new life as it frees you of the dead things. Once you are reborn again and your new life begins, the pain and the suffering show you its purpose.

Now that I reflect and look back on my own spiritual awakening, I can see clearly that the pain I had to endure was the most transformative thing that could have happened to me. It was the pain that led me to my purpose. Without feeling that pain, I would not be able to effectively do the work I so love doing now. I would not be able to help those who are going through their own painful awakenings.

All of it has taught me that the dominant pain in your life is a direction to where you will be of help to others. Your greatest pain is a guiding force to where you can make a difference in this life.

Pain is a gift if you truly understand it, but it is only in hindsight that you see the hidden blessing in an experience that might have felt like death.
