The Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack Is a Huge Upgrade

Here’s what’s included with this new performance Tesla Model S.

What is Tesla known for?

Tesla, the renowned electric vehicle (EV) company, has revolutionized the automotive industry with its cutting-edge technology, sustainable practices, and ambitious vision for a sustainable future.

Since its inception in 2003, Tesla has become synonymous with electric cars and emerged as a pioneer in transforming the perception and adoption of EVs worldwide.

One of the key aspects that sets Tesla apart is its relentless commitment to innovation. The company’s vehicles are known for their exceptional performance, range, and sleek design.

Tesla’s flagship models, such as the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, have garnered widespread acclaim for their acceleration, handling, and overall driving experience.

The instant torque provided by electric motors allows Tesla vehicles to achieve impressive acceleration, rivaling and surpassing many high-performance gasoline-powered cars.

Another notable feature of Tesla vehicles is their long-range capabilities. By utilizing advanced battery technology and optimizing energy efficiency, Tesla has been able to provide EVs with ranges that can rival or exceed those of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.

What’s included in the Model S Plaid Track Pack?

Tesla has unveiled an exciting new upgrade kit for the Model S Plaid, known as the Track Pack. This kit offers a range of enhancements including wheels, tires, brakes, and a significant boost to the top speed of the electric vehicle.

The Track Pack, currently available in the United States, comes with a price tag ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 (£12,000 to $16,000) depending on the specific items chosen. Tesla has stated that initial orders will be delivered starting in June.

Designed specifically for the flagship Model S Plaid, the track pack includes a set of carbon ceramic brakes featuring four 410 mm discs. The front brakes are equipped with six-piston calipers while the rear brakes feature four-piston calipers.

Additionally, the kit includes a pair of integrated parking brakes mounted on the calipers, specialized track-ready brake fluid that performs optimally at higher temperatures, and a firmware update to enhance the vehicle’s performance.

The upgrade package also introduces a new set of forged 20-inch Zero-G wheels paired with Goodyear Supercar 3R tires. While these tires are street-legal in certain U.S. states, they do not meet road-legal requirements in the UK.

Consequently, if the track pack becomes available in the UK alongside the Model S Plaid, drivers would need to switch to the included high-performance tires when using the vehicle on the track.

One of the most notable enhancements of the track pack is the increase in the Model S Plaid’s top speed. Originally capable of reaching 163 mph, the upgrade elevates the vehicle’s top speed to an impressive 200 mph, fulfilling Elon Musk’s promise of achieving a double-ton speed milestone.

As a reminder, the Model S Plaid is already an exceptional electric sedan boasting a staggering 1,000 horsepower generated by its three electric motors. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in a breathtaking two seconds and offers a claimed range of nearly 400 miles.

Surpassing 100 mph in under 4.2 seconds, the Model S Plaid even outpaces the acceleration of a Bugatti Chiron during this interval. In terms of in-gear acceleration, it achieves an astonishing 60 to 130 mph in under five seconds, making it one of the quickest cars on the road.

On the software side, the track pack introduces several improvements. The Model S Plaid benefits from enhanced battery conditioning, ensuring optimal cooling even after intensive track sessions. The air suspension receives new settings, further refining the vehicle’s handling characteristics.

Additionally, the torque vectoring between the three motors is improved, optimizing power delivery to the wheels. The car’s software allows drivers to adjust the power distribution between the front and rear wheels according to their preferences.

While the track pack is currently available in the United States, there is no official information on when the Model S Plaid, or the optional track pack, will be released in the UK. Customers can place an order for the vehicle with a refundable £100 deposit, but an estimated delivery date has yet to be announced.
