The power of action on Medium

Being action-oriented or not to be?

I have a problem with some people here on Medium.

I don’t want to judge because I have never met them, and I don’t know how they are, but by reading their articles, I got an idea about them.

I am not going to share the reason for my problem yet.

I want to share something from my life experience first.

I started to care more about my life goals, my productivity, and my personal development in 2020 after some wrong decisions I made (financial decisions).

I started to plan, write, think more about what I wanted, read more, and so on.

The problem was that sometimes I was over-planning or setting huge goals. Those were predetermined to fail, of course.

Long story short,

I was talking too much, but no action.

This is something I see a lot on Medium.

People are writing about Seven side hustles to make money online, or I will write 1000 articles in 30 days, or How to make $10k per month in one year.

Of course, I am exaggerating. The titles were different but in the same direction.

I don’t have a problem with the content. You can write about whatever you want. I mean, you can write about how to grow horses without having the experience in doing so.

I have a problem with the answer you are giving me.

If you write me about seven habits that will change my life in 6 months, and when I ask you which one you think is the most impactful, and you give me a shitty answer, I have a problem.

It is a problem when I ask you about your fears in trying to achieve more, and you give me a superficial answer.

But, my comment was only a way to show you that your article is AI-generated and you have no life experience in making money or changing your life.

And also that your articles are lacking of ACTION.

Am I too judgy?

I might be.

I might write about writing, but having no clue about this.

I might write about goals, but having no real goals.

I might write about gaming, but having no clue about it. The truth is there is a problem. I write about League of Legends while I am on a losing streak. Haha!

Anyway, this article isn’t about that guy who didn’t get a single $ from the side hustles he wrote about.

That article was indeed A.I. -generated, a general one, without anything from his personal experience.

This article is about action and being action-oriented.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, action-oriented means

willing or likely to take practical action to deal with a problem or situation

The accent comes on practical action.

People don’t pay for what we KNOW. They pay for what we DO, ‘do’ being our actions and experiences.

This is why I see stories about real-life events and personal experiences as the most successful here on Medium.

This is why I like to read stories about earnings, stats, and writing from people like Bin Jiang, Carl Jeffers, and Ryan Canady. Of course, there are more. They are great examples.

Such people are action-oriented. In general, successful people are action-oriented.

People like Warren Buffett or Elon Musk are action-oriented. They are known for their actions. They are known for the results they have.

What they know comes in second place.

Now, you might wonder if I am action-oriented.

Otherwise, why would I write about this?

I had no clue about Medium and writing when I started to write in November.

But I read a lot about these from other writers and started implementing their tips.

This way, from $0.6 I made in November, I went to $43.26 in December and $98.02 in January.

As you can see, my earnings, the number of followers, and the articles published grew.

How so?

I repeat!

I read those who knew better than me and then implemented their tips.

“Self-knowledge is best learned not by contemplation but by action” — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

I can give you other examples besides Medium stats and growth.

I read someone writing about his routine, and he said he put some cinnamon in his coffee.

What do you think I did?

That day, I drank my coffee with cinnamon. Haha!

Want more?

A guy was writing about Kalimba.

Now I am saving money to buy one. It is not expensive, though.

These are simple examples from Medium.

This is how I see being action-oriented.

Being action-oriented can bring better results over time and increase the probability of success.

What if I would only read the best articles here on Medium? Do you think the same results would come? I am sure it wouldn’t.

“You miss 100% of the shots you never take” — Wayne Gretzky, legendary hockey player.

At the end of the story, those articles I was talking about at the beginning were helpful, haha! They inspired me.

A little!

90% of the inspiration for this post came from The Mindset Mentor, a podcast I found in one of Seda Anbarcı’s articles.

I know it’s the second time I’ve said this, but that podcast is a value-bringer. I strongly recommend it.

What do you think about this article?

Are you action-oriented?

How many times I have used this word in this article?
