My first month on Medium wasn’t the best: November
Even though we are in December, let’s talk about my first month on Medium
Summary
This is my first month on Medium!
I thought it could have been better! But I don’t blame anyone. I don’t even blame me. It sounds cliche, but mistakes are good when you learn from them.
What is certain is that I had a good start. I posted one article every day for a week. However, because I had to leave home for a while (an event that made me get into a burnout session) and a lack of motivation, I stopped.
Let’s see what I did, what I have done wrong, and what I have learned from this November.
My initial plan and topic chosen
My initial plan was to post two articles per week. But I have read some people writing about the challenge to write every day. So I started to post every day, as you already know, so you know how it ended.
Because I am into gaming, I wanted to write about this.
My first article, posted at the finale of October, the one that started my Medium ‘career’ was
I still like it because it is my first manifestation of the courage to write and be read by people.
So, I continued writing about my gaming experience (specifically, my League of Legends sessions). Not pure gaming, but gaming as a transposal of lessons and skills to real life.
You can see this even from the titles:
- NINE lessons transposed from gaming to real-life
- Does gaming require discipline?
- Lessons Learned from GEN vs. BLG: Never Give Up
- How did gaming make me write this article?
- From Setbacks to Success: How Gaming Inspires Personal Growth
- It’s Monday: start a new game
- What are your FOUR skills?
- Why do I like to play League of Legends?
If you see something interesting, don’t hesitate to read it!
The last one from the list was posted on the 9th day of the month.
The last story of this month was posted eight days later, on the 17th.
Now that I have written the titles, I have noticed some minor grammar mistakes. Haha!
Results
- Articles posted: 9 (10 with the one from October);
- Story stats: 66 views and 22 reads (not that bad. at least I got some)

- Best article of the month: 9 lessons transposed from gaming to real-life

- Followers: Unexpected number.
Even though my posting rhythm was poor, my number kept increasing until 96. I am happy with this number.
Now,
Drums, please!
- Total earnings:

As you can see, I am richer than last month with 0.60$ more. Haha!
Better than nothing!
What could I have done better this month?
- Since this is the first month, I think I should’ve kept my initial plan of posting twice per week. I should have increased the number of them after I would have understood how Medium works.
- I should’ve engaged more with people on Medium and supported their articles.
- I should have more presence on Medium.
- I should have created a plan of what to post. My post ideas were spontaneous, based on my gaming experience in those days. I think this is not a bad thing, but having a plan could make results look better.
What I have done well this month? (What I am thankful for?)
- At least I have posted something and saw how things work!
- The number of followers is pretty impressive for me. Didn’t expect it.
- I know that Medium can bring some money, and that’s okay.
- I don’t feel like I wasted time. And this is great for my mental.
Conclusions:
Beginnings are interesting every time. Some articles are there, and that is good. They will probably continue to bring me some money and followers in the future.
I plan to continue with the stories/articles, improve my writing and my Medium knowledge, and bring my income to another level.
Not the best month, but at least was one on Medium!
Thank you for reading!
