Summary

The author reflects on reaching 500 followers on Medium, questioning the significance of follower count and emphasizing the importance of genuine engagement over mere numbers.

I have reached 500 followers on Medium

It’s the number of followers important?

I have reached 500 followers on Medium.

Cool, isn’t it?

I remember how enthusiastic I was when I got my first one in October.

I was amazed that I had someone to read my work.

Unfortunately, I found out that things don’t work like that.

When you have followers, you have an audience to write for. This should be the meaning of having them.

On Medium, things aren’t quite as straightforward.

The number of followers doesn’t make much sense, at least initially and for me.

To highlight this, let’s go back to the number of followers I have and do a little math.

If those 500 followers were to read the articles I write, the situation wouldn’t look like this:

Haha!

I know that for others, things are different.

I follow people, and for them, the number of followers reflects their work and the fact that they have a real audience to write for.

I also know that the quality of posts matters.

And I know that I have to work more for this.

Also, I am aware that on Medium, not everyone follows to read your writings.

That’s why we have the concept of genuine followers.

And I have a few, and I appreciate them!

Anyway, the number of followers is included in the category of milestones I want to achieve.

I’m convinced of its importance, namely that you become more exposed to Medium.

Which is great.

  • How many followers do you have?
  • How many of them are those that matter the most?

Thank you for reading!
