Abstract

Even his fellow humorists acknowledge his genius in making readers let out a hearty guffaw while reading his stories. The Joke of Life Called Laughing

Shout-out to humorists on Medium who make readers spray coffee-laced spittle on their screen (Part 2)

Writing humorous stories, for me, is best left to those who came out of this world the natural way (i.e. painful for the mother), popping out of the womb after tickling their birth mothers with their tiny elbows and knees.

These natural humorists must have thought it was no longer funny being trapped in the womb for 40 weeks, doing nothing but sleeping and eating, eating and sleeping — and playing football or dancing the swing during the last trimester.

But, a fetus is known to open its eyes and “see” light. The uterus, once thought by scientists to be a dark environment, is now deemed to transmit light that a fetus can see.

The yet-to-be-born baby is also known to respond more to its mother’s touch than its mother’s voice.

Babies also practice crying and making facial expressions while in the womb.

And if I know, the humorists in our midst were also practicing tickling their mom’s funny bone (although it may not register as a laugh-out-loud moment for the expecting mother).

But I am digressing from my intent, that of lionizing the humorists on Medium.

Their stories tickle my funny bone; the extra-nonsensical — I mean the extra-funny — ones draw showers of spittle that are sometimes laced in coffee towards my laptop or tablet screen.

Theirs is an act that is hard to follow, which is why I believe that their skill in making their readers laugh started to be developed during their gestation in their mother’s womb.

Check the links below and be ready to be entertained to the max.

Srini His most-clapped story has garnered 11,700 claps as of this writing. But don’t read this while drinking (any liquid) or you might regret it.

This one is a great piece in satire as expressed by many Medium writers whom I admire and whose (serious) work I read.

J.J. Pryor I believe he’s in a class all on his own. Even his fellow humorists acknowledge his genius in making readers let out a hearty guffaw while reading his stories. Read his story below, and let me know if you have not thought of swearing (in a cheerful way like I did) in the end.

Check this one, too, and experience a seesaw of emotions.

Riaz Laskar His self-deprecating humor, as shown in his stories, will keep you in stitches. Read his work but make sure you’re not eating or drinking. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you.

BichoDoMato He promises “unik content” in his bio and I can assure you, Bicho does not disappoint. But before I post a link to one of his promised unique content, let me share with you the story that made me a follower of his funny nonsense (in a way that elicits titters).

This one includes an interview with David Perlmutter. Yes, that David.

Smillew Rahcuef Discovering the humor of this writer is something new readers will not regret, that is, if you haven’t discovered yet how his stories are well-wrapped in fun.

Lindsay Rae Brown Check this story and feel for the narrator.

Note: Writing for this platform is a cheery experience for me. A big number of writers exude camaraderie giving me a sense of belonging in a supportive community.

This is what’s keeping me here. And this is why I am expressing thanks to the writers whose work I enjoy reading.

In sharing links to their stories, I hope others would discover what they are missing in terms of good reads. I know I’ll still discover more humor writers as days pass by.
