The Braver I Am, The Luckier I Get

Pain is not tragic. Pain is magic. Suffering is tragic. Suffering is what happens when we avoid pain and consequently miss your becoming.

Feel It ALL!

Book Review : Untamed By Glennon Doyle

Okay, so here is the thing, I have a love and hate relationship with this book right now. I enjoyed some parts of the book especially the first 30 pages but after that, I was lost and couldn’t connect and relate much. By the time I finished reading, I felt exhausted and I was glad — okay! I made it to the finish line.

Freedom is not being for or against an ideal, but creating your own existence from scratch.

I might have an unpopular opinion here. This book is highly successful and has been a best-seller, inspired many people especially women around the world. So I review this book in two parts.

Part One-

Why you should read this book?

Glass half full

This book is a fast read and you can finish up in a couple of days. I finished it during the weekend. It made me reflect on my own life, goals, and future.

Glennon is a recovered alcoholic and recovered bulimic. Hats off to her and I am glad that she found herself back, developed a voice, and shared it with everyone.

I admire her efforts to share her personal experiences with the world.

It’s unabashedly positive and Glennon related many things with her personal view and how she changed her perceptive and outlook on things that we see and practice without knowing or question the reasons on Why.

“Be careful with the stories you tell about yourself”.

We all have an invisible checklist — created by society for almost everything in our life and if we diverge from there, how quickly it made you the odd one out from the line.

She talks about from feminism to racism to patriarchy to marriage misogyny to beauty standards to motherhood to religion and whatnot. It touches bases on almost all the common and known issues we have in our society despite your background or where you belong or live in.

If you are going thru low self-esteem and not sure where you belong, this book can give you a starting point to know your “knowing” ( your self inner little voice).

If you are caged with society exceptions or following the steps that have been done by many many people around you without knowing its true purpose and feeling stuck, this book can help you to reclaim your self-worth, love yourself and find your true self, start trusting yourself and abandon other people’s expectations from you so that you can stop abandoning yourself for your good.

This book may help you to let down your guard, being who you want to be, and having compassion for the world and yourself.

Glennon has good parenting advice and motherhood how She and Paul (her ex-husband) have been supportive to their kids. How her kids are doing dishes after meals and how everyone helping and starts contributing to the family as well.

Part Two-

Why this book might not for you?

It’s a memoir and I get it. But it felt in the entire book, she didn’t face any real-world challenges in her life except infidelity from her husband. But she made thru with that, found her love of life, and get remarried just like a fairy tale and they all have ( she, her wife, ex-husband, and kids) great connection and hang out together frequently. It all seems very easy.

The most annoying thing that she said many times ( I lost count halfway thru) — I am a best-selling author and helped millions of women find their knowing. and the other one is I married to children’s father. She has three kids and now she is married to a woman. Glennon, I got it the very first time, You don’t need to remind me again and again in every chapter.

“Perhaps imagination is not where we go to escape reality but where we go to remember it.”

There are many “yeah I got it right” or “ yes Hell! I figured it out all” moments that made me a bit cringe and I rolled my eyes servals times and okay! good for you Glennon but not all of us can have this clarity so soon and so easily.

Even if you know your calling, you might not have enough resources or support system available to reach your goals and need to work extra hard to get there.

Glennon loves herself and puts herself before anyone as she mentioned in one of the chapters. It can be a good thing and important in the self-love journey. But at the same time, we all should be empathic towards each other in any given situation. It seems, she is not there yet.

An entire book, Glennon self-righteous, doing self praises and how she can figure it out all and excelling in all the department one can think of — personally or professionally) It might not be the case with everyone.

Sometimes it can take an entire lifetime to find the balance in all aspects of your life.

In life, there are many shades of gray, and is not all black or white — as Glennon let us believe. She was downright mean to people who asked her questions.

At last Glennon Doyle is not the only person, I am going to trust to teach me HOW TO BE A STRONG and Powerful WOMAN!

Be Bold

Be Courageous

Be Your Best
