How To Read More Books — Reading Goals For Healthy Mind
My workout is reading in bed until my arms hurt.
This is one of the most common goals many of us have every year if you are already an avid reader or starting out your reading journey.
We all want to read more books and sometimes we even have a list of books we want to read every year. I certainly do have reading goals.
If this is you, you’re clearly not alone! Making time to read is increasingly hard, with your phone, laptop and the latest binge-worthy TV shows and series, movies just waiting to take up all of your time and attention.
If I remember when I fulfilled my yearly book reading goals, It was back in 2017. When I wanted to read 35 books, I ended up reading 41 books instead. It seems, I used to manage my time well (joking!) — No I am serious!
However in the last couple of years I read only a few handful books but still encouraged to read better and more.
But rather procrastinating, I followed the quality of my reading instead of quantity and it improved my reading habits drastically. So if this is your one of the goals and want to read more books, these tips are perfect for you and I am sure it’s going to help you read more books.
Become A Reader In Fact a Consistent Reader — For a change, this year, keep the goal to become a more consistent reader. Set modest goals, at least at first. Aim to read just a little each day. You can put daily reading goals to 10–20 pages or more. You can choose time based on your schedule and make a habit to read every day.
It will help you to become a consistent reader and once it becomes your habit, you will start enjoying it. To read more books, you need to make it a priority, means changing your daily habits and routine to accommodate more reading.
Start With Bestsellers Or Frequently Recommended Books- With zillions of books available and almost everyone reading all different types of books may leave you clueless and what to read. You can research on the internet for best sellers or join online book reading communities/groups to get recommendations. You can pick your favorite genre books from top readers. It will lead to my next point.
Join Book Clubs ( Online or Otherwise) — Online book clubs are everywhere these days and pretty convenient too. It seems that almost everyone is creating a book club. So, our passion is very vogue right now.
If you are new to reading, why not start with most recommended books in your favorite genre. You can join online book reader communities like GoodReads, Library things. You can also join popular hashtags — bookreading, booklovers, readingchallenge or many other similar hash tags to get best recommendations.
This way, it will automatically develop an interest in reading and you are definitely going to enjoy some of the best work in literature.
Ask Your Friends/Family To Join — Everything is more fun when you have friends and family coming together. You can ask any of your friends to join you who have similar interests and motivate each other to read more and discuss books.
I absolutely love discussing books, getting a different understanding and perception of the same books is my absolute joy. These conversations can make you look differently and can develop new perspectives and deeper compassion in your reading.
Write Down Your Thoughts After Reading A Book- You will never know when you need a valuable wisdom. I find joy in writing down my favorite quotes in my diary and some of the paragraphs that are truly relatable.
If you like what you are reading, you are definitely at a good place.
Keep a diary or you can use your laptop/phone notes when you read and mark/write quotes or something you find interesting. It will help you to read more and develop an understanding of what you are reading.
Last but not the least, track your progress by recognizing each day what you managed to read, rather than by ticking off completed books.
After a couple of weeks, you will start to feel that your new habit is deepening and you are absolutely enjoying reading books.
I hope these points are going to encourage and motivate you that there are plenty of options available to read more.
If you haven’t tried one of these tips yet, give it a try. You are going to love it.
