The best strawberries I’ve ever tried were right in this forest

And I mean it: they were very sweet and extremely fragrant

I’ve shown you here many fruits that I collect from the forest at different times of the year: Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and rosehip:

Well, now this weekend I went to my favorite wild corner of Switzerland, the Lac de Taney region, and I found in the sunbathed sides of the roads lots of strawberries ripened right at their best point. This was close to the village of Miex, still 1 hour from Taney -to which I will get through the pass you see on the right in this photo:

Here are just some of the thousands of strawberries I passed by. In fact, right at this spot I stopped for some sweet snacks and to harvest fruits for later:

So I ate some fruits right there, and saved a few in a bottle for later…

Yes, they were very small, but you cannot imagine how delicious they were!

Better than any strawberries I’ve ever bought at a store.

And no, it’s not always like this. Sometimes, wild fruits just don’t taste very well or are simply rather tasteless. In particular, the latter has happened to me many times with wild strawberries. But there, were delicious: very sweet, and super fragrant.

Intermezzo: While I eat and harvest fruits, these nice flowers looked at me by the side:

A sweet snack before going to bed

I spent the night in a refuge next to the Taney lake. The dinner was included in the overnight stay, and it was great. But it was served too early, so I went for a late walk… (during which I spot some lovely animals and orchids, that you’ll see soon!). And when I returned to the refuge to go to sleep, I needed something sweet…

Voila! I had my strawberries for dessert!

Here they are, inside the bottle where I collected them. In my room at the refuge (you can see my bed in the back):

So that was the end of my first day of a weekend in Taney. Stay tuned for my next stories in this lovely corner of nature, and peek into my future stories here:

I let you here with a couple of other stories with recipes from the forest and a peek into the edibles I’m growing in my balcony garden:

And by the way, this was a visit to the Taney region by bike during last fall:
