Surrounded by colorful snapdragons

Basil, strawberries, salads and tomatoes growing powerful in the orchard balcony

Plus… what’s that? Watermelons? Zucchinis?

You saw in a recent quick update about the balcony orchard that tens of tomatoes germinated:

In the lead photo, a close look at a tomato that can’t let go the seed ^_^

Here are my tomatoes just split into pots to give them more space to grow, before I do a selection of the best plants:

You can notice two cucurbits that germinated too. Can you tell what they are? I’m sure they grew from seeds that made it from my kitchen’s scraps to the compost, so they can be either zucchinis, melon, watermelon, or pumpkin. Essentially any kind of cucurbit!

Here’s another of these plants, in this case growing together with an oak and a couple of weeks older -maybe now you can tell me what it is?:

Got three grown-up tomato plants too

Right before I knew mines were going to germinate…

Here you see one of them on the rack I built to raise the plants and make them reach sunlight. With some corn salad in front, too.

Using and re-growing basil

These are basil plants I purchased one week ago for cooking. They have rooted well now and looking much greener than the first days:

I just had a light Caprese salad this evening, consuming some of the leaves of this plant… You can see the trims on the right:

The leaves will keep growing during the summer -it’s only important to remove its flowers as soon as they show up.

The tomatoes were from the grocery store, but hopefully I will have my own in a month or so. Fingers crossed!

Growing salad

And besides corn salad and basil leaves for Caprese salads, the recycled salad keeps growing:

Lots of strawberries

Strawberries have been living in my balcony for years almost wild, but this time I put them in more sunbathed places.

A colorful setting thanks to these snapdragons

See here more of my balcony’s snapdragons here:
