My Profile

Hello! I’m Deb

Welcome to My Profile!

Photo by Brooke Cagle on Unsplash

About Me I am a trauma therapist and I am also a trauma survivor working on my own personal journey of healing.

This is the first time I have published any writing about my healing journey and it has been very cathartic for me.

My Passion I love music! I love all genres of music from the Beatles and Dean Martin to Billy Joel and Michael Bublé, and all kinds of music in between. Music is one of my passions. Here are a few of my stories about coping and music.

Adoption is also one of my passions. I am the adoptive parent of two young men: 36 and 38 years old who have been with me since they were children. I was also a foster mom for special needs children. That’s when my dedication to Special Education became another of my interests. Here’s the beginning of my series on adoption:

Cooking is another one of my passions. I have worked in many different restaurants, from high-end cuisine to diner food. I owned a restaurant for a couple of years in another lifetime. I come from a long line of Italian cooks. Fun fact: my great-grandparents actually came over on the boat to Ellis Island in 1892.

My husband, Lee and I are both married for the second time around and we have six grandchildren of varying ages between us. Here’s a peek at a day with our 3-year-old twins:

My Journey on Medium Here at Medium, I have discovered a place where I can write passionately from my heart and soul. Writing with honesty is very therapeutic for me and helps me to heal. Medium is a place where I hope my healing can help others.

I have met many other writers at Medium who have shared similar experiences. Writers who identify the same feelings. Writers who have felt the pain of relentless betrayal. Writers who lived their lives in shame and terror until they found a way out of their darkness. Writers who shine the light for other victims to find their way to survival.

What impresses me are writers who are authentic and unafraid to tell their stories. Writers who are courageous enough to let their vulnerability shine through their words. Writers who describe their pain so vividly that my heart drops when I read their words. Writers who make me hold my breath while I pray for that happy ending. The cascade of various emotions is simply amazing and has me hooked every time!

Some of my favorite writers on Medium include but are not limited to: JS Adam, Norlisa Alias, Lena Ann, Donnette Anglin, Art Bram, Sam Finlayson, Julia Freeman, Liberty Forrest, Author, Justiss Goode, Natasha Hawthorn, Carrie. A. Kelly, Tree Langdon, Liz Porter, Ann van der Giessen and Pam Winter.

There are many other amazing writers on Medium but space is limited and I cannot list them all. Please accept my apologies in advance.

My Mission to Help Others I believe in paying it forward and I hope to inspire other victims who are trying to discover a way to heal. I want to shine a light in the darkness as a beacon of hope to help others.

Mostly, I want others to know they are not alone because I spent most of my life feeling alone.

During my years of therapy, I learned there is a place for me in this world. I learned that I do belong.

I learned to believe that I am worth it and I do deserve to be here.

Today I am stronger and happier than ever before. I want to help others find their way along their healing journey.

If you are interested in hearing more about me, you can read all three parts of my first series about growing up with abuse.

John Bradshaw has been my mentor since the ’80s. My husband, Lee and I were able to attend a workshop with John. The workshop was about healing our inner child and became another 3-part series:

More stories that I have written. Hope you enjoy the read.

Sending love and light to everyone who is traveling their healing journey in life.
