Summary

PC gamers may have to wait until 2026 or later for the release of GTA 6, despite its 2025 release window for consoles.

Abstract

The article discusses the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) for PC gamers. While the game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, historical trends suggest that the PC version might not be available until 2026 or 2027. This is based on the pattern observed with previous Rockstar titles like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, which were released on consoles before arriving on PC. The author speculates that the delay could be due to the focus on console releases, which have historically been more profitable for Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive. However, with the next generation of consoles potentially arriving in 2026 and the increasing similarity between consoles and PCs, the author optimistically suggests that the wait for GTA 6 on PC might not extend beyond a year. The article also invites readers to follow the author for ongoing gaming news and insights.

Opinions

  • The author believes that a PC version of GTA 6 is inevitable but expects a delay beyond the console release date, likely until 2026 or 2027.
  • There is an expectation that Rockstar will continue its strategy of maximizing profits by releasing different versions of the game over time.
  • The author expresses a hopeful view that the PC version might arrive sooner than historical patterns suggest, possibly due to the evolving landscape of gaming technology and market trends.
  • The author implies that the PC gaming community is significant and should not be overlooked by developers, despite the current revenue disparity between PC and console gaming.
  • There is a sense of anticipation for GTA 6's PC release, with the author suggesting that it will be technologically impressive and worth the wait.

PC Gamers Might Have to Wait Longer for GTA 6

If history repeats itself, we might have to wait an extra year.

In my earlier stories, I’ve covered lots of GTA stuff — you can find those linked below. Today, I want to chat about how PC gamers might have to hang tight for GTA 6 a bit longer.

You know how we’ve been itching for Grand Theft Auto 6? Well, it’s finally got a release window, but here’s the kicker — it’s not the full picture. Rockstar’s teaser comes with a big announcement: Grand Theft Auto VI is hitting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. But what about the PC gang?

Let’s cut to the chase. There’s no doubt a PC version is in the cards. GTA 5 is still rocking as the sixth most-played game on Steam, with a spot in the top 20 bestsellers list, not once but twice. Rockstar’s raking in cash with its online mode splurging on microtransactions.

They’ve got a knack for getting us to buy different versions, so you can bet they’ll milk that strategy again. The real question isn’t ‘if’, it’s ‘when’. And brace yourself, the bad news is 2025 ain’t happening, folks.

Take a peek at history. GTA 5 dropped on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, followed by the PS4 and Xbox One in 2014. PC players had to tap their fingers till April 2015 — that’s a whopping 19 months later. Red Dead Redemption 2 was a tad more merciful, hitting consoles in 2018 and PCs 13 months later in 2019.

So, realistically, we’re looking at a PC arrival for GTA 6 in either 2026 or 2027. I’d bet my chips on 2026. Odds are GTA 6 will hit consoles in early 2025, going by Take-Two’s investor statement. They’re eyeing a mega bump in performance by fiscal 2025, hinting at a possible GTA 6 launch.

Going by past releases, a 13-month delay lands us in April 2026. And if it’s a 19-month lag like GTA 5, expect it around October 2026.

Here’s where my wishful thinking kicks in. I’ve got a hunch this wait won’t stretch past a year. GTA 5 had an odd timing — coming out just before the PS4 and Xbox One. Those consoles became the stars, and that’s where the port focus landed. Fast forward to now, consoles still rule Take-Two’s revenue kingdom, bagging 43.1% compared to PC’s 9.5%.

But times are changing. Speculations point to the next-gen consoles showing up in 2026, making PC the prime spot for GTA 6. Heck, there’s even talk that GTA 6 might not be exclusively built for the next consoles.

Consoles are becoming more like PCs anyway, getting better at backward compatibility. Remember, Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t have a separate PS5 or Series X version — just tweaks for the newer tech.

Final Words

Honestly, I can’t see this wait stretching till 2027. Sure, it will feel like a forever-long wait, but when it finally drops, bet on it packing some serious tech magic, making the PC version the absolute best bet.
