A short story by Ernio Hernandez

The day was Ana’s. At last. All hers.

Hubby was off to work after turning a strange hue on vacation from dollar-store sunscreen.

As he left in a loaded Lyft, she flipped off her flip-flops and hopped on the sofa.

Click: the TV on the Netflix button the next episode. She was SO far behind.

As her show loaded, she popped open her iPhone.

Tap: her unlock screen her games folder her Candy Crush. She was SO far behind.

As the “King / Loading…” screen loaded, she skipped over the theme song.

Oh:

no! Sorry, Regina Spektor, not again. boy! Another episode with Alex Vause. well! At least she could match candy colors. girl! Was that sofa behind her comfy.

As hubby’s kiss loaded up her lips, she rolled onto her side, smiling.

“Orange, knock-knock,” he whispered.

“Nnnh, orange who…”

“Orange you glad I didn’t say banana.”

The day was Ana’s. Alas. All hers.
