Summary

The web content describes a "choose your own" story arc where the protagonist, after being led to safety by an orc, learns of their family's capture and must decide whether to venture alone to Ballax to rescue them or wait to depart with allies at dawn.

Abstract

The narrative continues from a previous installment, "The Burned Village," and presents the reader with a critical decision point in a serialized drabble fiction story. Following an attack on their village, the protagonist and their group are guided by an orc to a concealed cave system for refuge. The orc reveals that some villagers, including the protagonist's family, have been taken to a fortress called Ballax. As night falls, the protagonist is faced with a choice: to embark on a solitary journey to Ballax immediately or to rest and leave with the support of their companions at daybreak. The story is part of a collaborative project initiated by JF Danskin, inviting contributions to its progression.

Opinions

  • The orc's character challenges the stereotype of orcs as inherently monstrous, emphasizing a desire for peace and acknowledging regret for the village attack.
  • The protagonist's determination to find their family is evident, driving the narrative forward.
  • Dara's supportive gesture and suggestion to leave at dawn offers a contrasting approach to the protagonist's urgency, providing a strategic alternative to the immediate, solitary action.
  • The story's interactive nature, allowing readers to choose the protagonist's next move, engages the audience in shaping the narrative's direction.
  • The mention of JF Danskin's foundational contribution and the invitation for others to participate in the story's development highlight the value of collaborative storytelling and community engagement in the creative process.

This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition,” initially created by JF Danskin. Head back to the previous installment, The Idea of Safety, or The Honor of Gremgor.

Your group is led deeper into the forest and after several hours, arrive at a hidden cave system. It’s dark and damp, but it will be safe.

“Thank you,” you say, grateful for the orc’s help.

The orc nods. “We not all monsters. Only want peace.”

“I need to find my family,” you say. “Do you know where they are?”

The orc nods. “We attack your village. Sorry. Some taken prisoner. They there,” he said, pointing at a distant fort. “Ballax.”

Dara approaches and places an elegant hand on your shoulder. “We’ll head out at dawn.”

Do you:
