My Story As A Writer On Medium

Something I would like to share as an editor and writer

I have the honour of being an Editor with Illumination and its family of publications. I read a lot of stories and try to write things from my experience. Nobody can be as energetic as the chief editor Dr Mehmet Yildiz. He is like a spark plug and has issued a challenge to find out the motivation points and struggles of writers on Medium.

1 — As a writer, my major pain points and struggles I wish to write far more than I can. As an editor of many publications of Illumination, I have to juggle my time between editing and writing my stories. Also, I enjoy reading stories of other writers and commenting and discussing their viewpoints. There is a time limitation and I cannot complete so many things.

2 — As a writer, my desires and aspirations I wish to reach out to a large audience who will give me their feedback and viewpoints so that I can learn from them and have self-improvement.

3 — Here are my top five stories that received the most views

a) Investment in Equity Shares: This story was from my subject on finance and it was about techniques of investment. Although this story has received the highest views and it was right in the beginning when I started writing I have not received such high views in other finance articles on Medium.

b) Myths or Truth Of Lucky And Unlucky Numbers In India: This story was about the myths attached to certain numbers such as 13, 8, 420, 9211. I think people generally want to know why these numbers are unpopular. I also wrote about lucky number 786.

c) About Me — Dr Preeti Singh: My story about my life, what I do and how I have spent my years working seemed to have many views. I think people wanted to know me before or while interacting with me. I have recently completed 50 golden years of work-life and have decided to now spend my time reading and writing, enjoying nature and yoga and doing community development work. I would also like to spend time with my family and friends.

d) She Has A Heart Of Gold: This story was about a lady who is a social activist. She runs a school for poor children, she makes skin and hair beauty products and uses the money received from sales for her school. She has received many awards for her contribution to society.

e) Stretch Your Best for Fitness With Yoga: Yoga is real me. I have practised it right from childhood. Now I do light yoga. Some writers on Medium tell me that if they do poses like me they will be sick. This is not true as yoga differs in pattern for each age group and can be enjoyed by all.

4 — Here are my great stories that did not receive the required level of attention from readers…[Add a paragraph introducing each story]

a) Can I Dare To Review The Star Reviewer Karen Madej? This review was done to bring to focus Karen Madej who is a star reviewer and also writes her weekly wisdom column and makes people aware of the writings of various writers. According to me, this story should have received high engagement with her name but although there are many comments yet statistics do not show it in the top views.

b) Are We Being Human As A Nation? This story was written to light faceless, nameless people who people do not bother about and who do not have any means of living well. This is the story of poverty and I wish more people would read it. Again it has got views but I wish they were higher than what was received.

c) Technology Is A Necessary Evil But MBA Without Interaction Cannot MakeValuable Leaders.: Although it is important to use technology it cannot be the only means to study a masters in business administrators. It is necessary to have practical training and physical interaction to make a complete leader. In the modern world, this story should have been popular.

d) The Three Important Principles To Live A Happy, Contented And Satisfied life: See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. These are the three principles of life that make it happy and satisfied. It seems it is the fast world and people are not interested and such words of wisdom.

e) Physical Marries Digital To Become Phygital: This is the story of the modern world and it is a combination of meeting and having interaction as well as a digital environment. Phygital is the common word used for such an alliance these days but fewer people seemed to have related to this concept.

7 — I plan on writing about these topics. My reasons …

I like to share my experiences about my work-life, education, corporate organizations, nature, yoga, happiness, technology, finance.

8 — I plan to read more about these topics. My reasons …

Technology and Leadership

9 — I want to read more from these writers. [Tag their Medium account ID]

Britni Pepper, 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘊., FILZA CHAUDHRY, Desiree Driesenaar, Michael Burg, MD (AKA Medium Michael Burg), Spyder, Esther George, George Blue Kelly.

10 — If I were the owner of Medium, I’d implement these features to support writers and readers…

a) There is no MPP in India. Readers and Writers from India are writing on Medium. More writers would be interested in this program is initiated in India also. Many writers would like an income besides simple interaction with others and they even discuss why I waste my time on Medium when it does not value Indian writers. I hope Medium will expand and increase its frontiers.

b) Claps are very important to make people happy that their posts have been enjoyed by the reader. Normally websites have one clap only but Medium has 50. This policy is not known to new people or outsiders who are reading and appreciating the work of the writer. The medium should give a clear policy.

c) My claps keep on vanishing. I do not know whether this is a problem with my account or others also. I clap and later on when I see the claps are gone. What is this glitch?

d) I am unable to find my followers and following because Medium does not give it alphabetically.

e) Editors have a difficult time because at time Medium does not allow us to publish more than 15 stories per day. Being an editor on 5 of the Illumination integrated publications, there are days when there are a large number of stories and you feel helpless because Medium does not allow us to publish.

Many thanks to Dr Mehmet Yildiz for challenging our brains to write and share about our concerns and future plans as writers on Medium.
