My April Earnings | And What I Have Learned
Surprisingly, I’ve earned a lot more than I thought I would in 10 days. NOTE: I joined Medium’s partner program on April 18th, 2022.
The big old question, how much money are writers earning on Medium? My April earnings I’m about to share, are essentially how much I have earned across 10 days (18.4.22 — 30.4.22).
April 18th 2022 is the beginning date that I was accepted into the partner program. I was excited at the prospect of being able to metre my stories and begin earning money.
Now, I’m not entirely sure why articles focusing on how much writers have earned, seem to be viewed upon negatively. Personally, I enjoy reading others’ posts about how much they earn on Medium.
I believe it promotes an honest discourse.
It provides important insights, about how or why others earn as much or less as they do… in my opinion.
So, let’s get straight into it.
How Much I Have Earned
From April 18th — April 30th, I earned $16.70 (USD). Although, I live in Australia. Therefore, my earnings across 10 days in April are $23.63 (AUD).

I am quite pleased with these figures. I honestly was not expecting to earn much money at all, let alone $23.63 within my first 10 days of being a part of the partner program.
I’ve read posts where writers set themselves financial targets each month. For example, in May they aim to reach triple digits, and by the end of the year, they hope to have earned $1,000.
I am choosing to not do this. I find this overwhelming. For now, I shall bask in the glory of a mere $23.63 — good enough for me!
My Top 5 Articles
My top 5 articles (see below links) consisted of personal experiences and Medium focused posts.
This was probably my most difficult post to date. I believe this article gained the highest traction due to its raw nature. Personal topics such as these, allow my readers to connect with me on a deeper and more authentic level. I’m not sure? I guess I can only speak for myself as I enjoy reading about others’ personal experiences too.
Why You Need to ‘Read for Read’ as Opposed to ‘Follow for Follow’
I believe the title of this post speaks for itself. I always read posts that relate to Medium and the often, unsaid directives or advice attached with writing on Medium. I find it interesting.
After reading copious amounts of articles on making money on Medium, I condensed my learnings and insights into 3 top tips to follow. These were the tips that were emphasised in most of my research. Additionally, these tips worked for me.
My Depressing Experience With One Sided Love | Try Not To Fall In Love With a Married Man
Writing this was difficult. In the article, I shared the immense pain I was experiencing. Perhaps my audience appreciated my transparency? Or perhaps it’s because they could connect with my pain? Heartbreak seems like a universal experience after all.
Writing a Part 2 of my painful experience was unexpectedly a lot harder than writing my first, as I still felt incredibly vulnerable. I was in tears while writing this. Nonetheless, it was very therapeutic. I guess my readers simply appreciated a follow up?

I would like to emphasise, I did not create a Medium account to make money. I created this account to write, read and connect with others. Money is simply a bonus.
But I’m not going to lie. Monetary gain has also been ONE of the very many motivating factors of why I write.
Ultimately though, I write for joy. I write to share. I write to engage.
MY ADVICE — READ AND COMMENT
If there is one piece of advice I can give, please READ and engage with others’ posts. After all, Medium consists of a community of writers. Therefore, supporting one another is paramount.
Whenever somebody comments on my articles, I always click on their page and look through their posts. If their writing interests me, I will read, highlight, clap and comment.
It may take me some time to respond to most, but I generally do.
Making a genuine effort to engage with others is a big contributor to growing your account and earnings.
Rather than only posting, try posting AND engaging!

SHOUT OUT
I wanted to give a special shout out, to several incredible writers I am following.
It is extremely obvious when somebody has commented on a post but did not take the time to truly read it. In saying this, not only do the below writers post great content, but they have all taken the time out of their day to read (TRULY read) and comment on multiple posts of mine.
Elizabeth Sobieski, Stephen Adams, Marianne Irvine, Dandehelio, Sapien, The Sober Vegan, Autistic Widower, Deanna Proach, Bernie Pullen, Nicole Dake, Timothy, Wendy Scott, Lui Diaz, George Kelly, Barefoot Grace
Have a look through their posts. If their writing interests you as it does me, give them a follow!
