Medium Publication Stats — Unique Daily Visitors, Views, and Minutes Read
The often overlooked Medium publication metrics that are very valuable

I’ve previously written about some of the core stats that Medium writers have access to through their individual profiles.
While the stats available on one’s personal profile are essential to learn, the stats provided to Medium publication editors are even more useful for experienced Medium writers.
These detailed analytics are just one of the advantages of creating your own Medium publication.

Medium publication stats are comprised of 30-day and 90-day views of:
- Views — The total number of views your publication has received on all posts and pages.
- Minutes Read — The total amount of time spent reading your publication.
- Unique Daily Visitors — The average number of unique daily visitors who have visited your publication. Each visitor is counted once per day, even if they view multiple pages or the same page multiple times.
Views
Views represent the total number of views your publication has received on all posts and pages.

This metric is similar to the views metric found on your individual profile. The key difference between the to “Views” metrics is that the publication views metric includes pages.
Featured pages are a major part of many publications, and the number of views of these pages is not captured in the data from your individual Medium profile.

Minutes Read
Minutes Read is the total amount of time spent reading your publication.

Prior to October 2019 (when Medium changed how members of the Partner Program were compensated), Minutes Read was an interesting statistic, but not that useful. Now that Total Member Reading Time is essentially the sole determinant of MPP earnings, this statistic is more important.
Still, this statistic can be misleading since it includes both internal and external traffic sources (meaning both unpaid views and paid member views are counted together).
Unique Daily Visitors
Unique Daily Visitors is the average number of unique daily visitors who have visited your publication. Each visitor is counted once per day, even if they view multiple pages or the same page multiple times.

In my experience, Unique Daily Visitors is the best of the three statistics for gauging the success of your publication over time.
This is primarily due to the fact that this metric essentially controls for repeat readers, and as a result, is a better proxy for your publication’s ability to continually reach new readers.

★★★ Medium only allows writers to view a 90 day history tracking metrics such as unique daily visitors. To analyze and compare data over longer periods of time, jot down your stats or take a screenshot every 90 days, so that you can track your progress over time. ★★★
How to View Your Publication Stats
Step 1.
Click on your publication avatar located in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

Note: If you are not already viewing a story in your publication, you will need to navigate to a story in the publication you are trying to look up the stats.
