Medium Partner Program Monthly Wrap-Up (month 5)
42 articles written and I joined the $100 club!
This is month five of my first 6 months in the Medium Partner Program. I won’t write any more wrap-ups after that. I don’t think.

Phew! On one hand, it is hard to believe that July is over, on the other hand, I am thankful. For some reason or the other, I have been feeling a bit burnt out this last week of July, and I haven’t written the quantity that I normally have in previous months. But 42 stories is still pretty darn good.
In July I celebrated writing 250 articles!
It still boggles my mind that I have that much to say, and every day I am inspired to write many more articles. The number of article drafts that I have on the go is in the ’90s now, and growing daily! So I don’t think I will ever run out of things to write about.

July 31st also marks 6 months since I submitted my first article on January 31, 2022. It took me a little over a month to get into the partner program and I did so on March 8th.
So this is officially my 1/2 year celebration on Medium!
While I keep waiting for that viral article to take off one day, I am also happy plugging along at a slow and steady pace. Bit by bit, my readership increases, my stats go up, and so do my earnings.
This past month I continued my series “An Epic Kayaking Adventure.” It’s about a 4-month kayaking adventure that I undertook in my 20’s back in the year 2001. An ex and I paddled around the Everglades and then shipped our kayak over to the Bahamas. Looking back, I can see now that it is quite the story!
I have now written part 5 and you can read the whole series by clicking the list below. There will be a couple more parts to come out, at least.
I also submitted 3 articles to the Globetrotters writing prompt “Celebrations Around the World.” I’m happy to say that I got an honorable mention for my articles from 3 out of 4 editors over there. I submitted Fiji For the Millenium, A Graduation Celebration in Bulgaria, and Celebrating the Strangest Ramadam in Morocco.
To read about them all, check out Anne Bonfert’s wrap-up post:
I am very grateful to JoAnn Ryan, Adrienne Beaumont, Gerald Sturgill, and Anne Bonfert for keeping that publication growing at an incredible rate! Great work guys!
I also submitted a few travel posts to Gerald’s publication, Digital Global Traveler in July. Click to read Full-Time Travelers Collect Souvenirs As Well, Experiencing a 6.8 Earthquake in Costa Rica, The Strangest Thing I Ever Ate, I Think, and The Most Obscure Place That I Have Been To.
Thanks for publishing my stories Gerald Sturgill!
And JoAnn Ryan decided to start her own publication In Living Color and I’m excited to say that I was the first to submit a story to it, Celebrating a New Publication and Our Furry Friends. Congrats JoAnn!
In July I continued to write my weekly wrap-up in the Weeds & Wildflowers publication. I appreciate Dennett giving me a space where I can keep people up to date if they wish to follow our adventures. You can see the whole list here:
I also submitted a few contributions to A Taste For Life’s Weekend Prompts. Jason Edmunds continues to inspire me most weeks with his thoughtful prompts. The stories that get pulled from my brain are sometimes hysterical and I forget that they were even in there! Read those entries in this list:
Thank you also to Mary Chang Story Writer for her publication. I wrote these for Six Word Photo Story in July:
And my favorite post that I wrote this month was a lot of fun. I wrote about Canada and my recommended ‘Tick List’ for when you travel there. This article was inspired by Malky McEwan and I really enjoyed the process of analyzing the things that I deem worthy of trying and doing while visiting my home country.
I’m happy to say that my own publication, Share Your Creativity, now has 51 followers! I received a few more submissions this month and will be posting about those soon as well. If you want to write, or read about creativity, please consider joining us!
About the numbers
While June saw a big dip in my views and reads, July fluctuated up and down a little bit here and there, but stayed pretty steady.

Last month I had 7901 views, 4292 reads, and 1684 fans. So, I am happy with my improvement in July.
While I had no big viral articles, the earnings per article are slowly increasing and I finally broke the $100 club this month!
My total earnings including referrals was $116.60.
I call that a win!

My highest earning article to date continues to be I Sailed Around The World! It clocks in at almost $10!

This month I gained 198 followers. After Medium sorted out my follower count, I think I am at 1282 followers in total. I also have 3 referred members and 27 email subscribers.

I’ve noticed this month, more than other months, that I sometimes earn money on an article that gets zero reads or views. Oftentimes it is just 6 cents or less, but one article got me $1.85 for no apparent reason!
I’m not complaining.
I think what this means is that the more articles that are out there earning these little bits randomly, the more potential there is to make more money. So I will keep on keeping on!

It looks like these Medium wrap-ups are profitable to write. July was the first month that I made a significant amount on the one for June. Fingers crossed that this one performs as well, if not better:)

While I’m certainly feeling a bit of burnout right now, it won’t stop me from writing completely. I am still going to focus on writing every day, I have 92 drafts to work on, after all, but my publishing may be slightly less frequent. I say that now, but somedays I become like a machine and can’t stop hitting publish. So we will see what happens.
We do have a big shift coming up as we will be departing Africa on August 9th bound for Turkey. After being mostly in Africa since January of 2020, we are certainly looking forward to a change of scenery and a different culture. So I am sure there will be lots of stories to write about that!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all of you who continue to read my stories and cheer me on. I am loving this adventure on Medium like no other, and am so happy to have made such a great group of internet friends through this platform.
My only hope, someday, is that I can meet many of you in real life!
With Gratitude,
Jill
