A Scenic Overlook Along A Dirt Road
Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Freestyle”
Crater lake featured on Ugandan money.
While we were bumping along the dirt roads of the Ugandan countryside the other day, our host and guide told us that this crater lake is the one that is featured on the 20 000 Ugandan Shilling note. In all honesty, I hadn’t even looked that closely at the bill before that.
But sure enough, we could see plain as day, the giant tree that is in the foreground, as well as the shape of the lake. I can’t imagine what will ever happen if that tree dies!
Guess they will have to make some new money!
Uganda is absolutely full of crater lakes! This is something that we certainly didn’t know about the country before coming here, but it has been interesting to see them and to learn how they came to be.
We were told that there are over 40 crater lakes in the country, and apparently, it was violent volcanic activity that formed them, some 8000–10 000 years ago! Because of this volcanic activity, Uganda features lush tropical vegetation and a few different hot springs!
Known as the ‘Pearl of Africa’, Uganda is one of the greenest countries that we have visited on our travels. Despite the fact that it sits right on the Equator, the temperature is reasonable and the air is fresh, all because of its high elevation.
One might even say that it has the perfect climate!
If you are thinking of coming to Africa, Uganda should certainly be on your itinerary!
