Life In a Peaceful World

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Freestyle”

Under the water, time stands still.

A simple rope under the water caught my eye while snorkeling in the Virgin Islands.

What do you see? Does this build-up of marine life annoy you? Or do you see the beauty in it?

As I hung motionless with nothing but my breath keeping me afloat, I was able to observe this seemingly insignificant thing.

I was intrigued by the plant life and the creatures that occupied it.

Small fish darted in and out of the plants, while the long plant tendrils caught the odd piece of nutrients that were floating past it.

Small oxygen bubbles were released and floated to the surface.

The sun shone on the highest parts.

There is no noise under the water. These plants and creatures don’t have to deal with the sounds of our world.

They exist in a sort of harmony that humans will never understand.

Snorkeling is a fascinating activity. You can’t even imagine the amount of life that lives just below the surface of the water. The minute you put your head in the water, you feel a peace wash over you that can’t be compared to anything on land.

As it is up here on the surface, it is the small creatures that we don’t see. But these are important as well. They are all part of our broad ecosystem, and they deserve to be protected.

Chances are, these tiny plants are cleaning the water. They make it safe for us to be in, and for the other marine creatures to live.

Do we think about these things as humans? Or do we decide that we should just kill it all, because who needs plants anyways?

I hope one day that we all recognize how fortunate we are to be on this planet.

That we take the time to appreciate that nature is there for us to enjoy.

It is what makes our planet beautiful.

And it is what keeps us ALIVE.
