Is This the Magic Number to Get To $1,000 A Month?

She had me thinking, why am I not breaking the $500 monthly MPP earnings?

I did twice only because of the Medium writing bonus. But since the bonuses are gone, I make $100 each month, still a big sum of money, and I need to remind myself that I am lucky to be paid for something I love doing, and that is writing.

Breaking it down into smaller goals makes it easy to reach. So I did my math and based on two of my articles, I would need 25,000 internal views a month to make my earnings jump to $1,000.

I tried it before and broke down my money goal of $1,000 a month. If I only have 278 Medium members reading me each day, that will do it, but even that small number is hard to come by these days.

Let's do the math, Again.

So if it isn't the number of Medium members, what metrics could help me break down my goal of making $1,000 a month?

I looked at my MPP earnings today, and if I divide my earnings with the number of reads, I would need 50,000 reads each month, and while the number may be too big to digest for my eyes, even if I break it down by dividing it in 30 days, I still need 1,667 reads each day.

And the month is almost over, and I only have 5,000 reads.

So I have to look at the other possible permutations around the available metrics to reach the $1,000 a month goal.

What if I use views instead of reads?

But a slight caveat, it has to be viewed from Medium members.

Otherwise, it wouldn't count. It happened to me a few times. I wrote a story that got over 20,000 views, and I earned $4.73.

So an article could have views coming from Google traffic, which is also a good thing, especially now that some of that traffic seems to get paid or could be a way to find new people to sign up as a Medium member. If you are lucky, they will sign up from your affiliate link.

Internal views.

I have checked my stats, and based on calculations, I get paid anywhere from $.03 to $.04 per view. [See images above.] I only divided the amount paid with the number of internal views.

If I want to earn $500

All I have to do is divide $500 with $0.03 or $.04.

Let us go with 3 cents per view, and I would get 16,666 views, let us make that easy on the eyes.

Let us divide 16,666 into 30 days, and I need each day to have;

555 internal views.

If I want to earn $1000

All I have to do is divide $1000 with $0.03 or $.04.

Let us go with 4 cents per view this time, and I would get 25,000 views, let us make that easy on the eyes.

Let us divide 25,000 into 30 days, and I need each day to have;

833 internal views.

Conclusion.

It’s great to dream big, but the way to achieve big is to start small — through micro habits.

Micro habits are small components of a larger habit. By breaking down an ambitious job into smaller, more achievable ones that you build over long periods of time, micro habits help you complete big goals.

I read it from Casey Botticello; there are anywhere from 170,000–200,000 writers on Medium and more paying subscribers.

It could be the reason I have yet to make $500 or $1,000 month after month is that I haven't found my tribe.

The people who would read my stories day after day, because by breaking down my goal into smaller goals, I only need at most 1,000 people to view my stories or 30,000 people a month.

But to make $1,000 can also mean earning from sources other than Medium, and like many of you, I'm still figuring out which platform can help boost my online income.

And it makes a lot of sense when I think about it,

Money doesn't have to come from Medium alone or writing. It can come from unexpected places.

All I have to do is believe, dream and hope.

After all, I started with nothing, and so far, I have earned more than $2,000 already just from writing?
