Sometimes The Message Comes From the Unexpected Places

And here is why we should never forget we are all connected.

Here is some honesty, it is hard to make money as a blogger or a writer, especially as a Medium writer.

Although I have consistently been making at least $100 month after month, I should be thankful, right?

Arigato, Money!

I belong to the 8–10% of Medium writers who reached the $100 earnings each month because it isn't easy.

The only advice I can give new writers is to continue writing. I used to make less than a dollar each month until I wrote about 100 stories. I know each journey is different, and some will make it with fewer stories while others may take more.

And before, I was a happy writer, even with the very little I made until I made it to the top 2,000 Medium writers list if there was one.

That was when Medium gave away bonuses to its top 2,000 contributors. I was lucky enough to get a bonus four times. Without them, my monthly earnings would not even reach $100.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but it pays the bills.

And $100 a month isn't enough, although I live a very simple life, so there are times when I question why I am writing day after day, even just for the sake of writing in the hope that story would be the story that will bring in more money.

Only to be disappointed, especially the stories I labored, sometimes that took days to finish, with very few views and reads that end up as another one-cent article.

Unlike before, I write for enjoyment, the sheer pleasure of connecting words and telling stories. Yet, there are days when it feels like a chore, there I finally said it.

Writing did save me not only from boredom but from spiraling down the rabbit hole of depression.

As the world gets back on its feet, we are slowly losing the things that we felt mattered the most during the pandemic, that money isn't everything, that time spent with our loved ones are valuable because even if we wanted to see them, the people we love and care for, we can't.

But we are losing all the life lessons. That is how I feel. And that is why sometimes we don't care anymore about other people's struggles, and that is why maybe personal stories don't get read that much anymore on Medium.

Did we stop caring?

Today comes to an unexpected lesson: The message comes in places you would not expect it to come. While I love my family, my nephews and nieces especially, I get too caught up with my feelings or the money problems that keep me awake at night, but today I fought those feelings and said hello to a niece, and during our conversation,

I talked about NFTs, her digital art, and money.

And while we also said I love you to each other, she left me an important message.

When I said, I worked 18–20 hours writing, but I ended up with cents, while people on TikTok or YouTube do a 30-second dance, and they get paid big money.

She told me that we don't need to be TikTok famous to make money, that it will come to us.

And that jolted me like a rumble of thunder from a storm, that I need not worry about money, although I have to labor and work hard, always to remember that money doesn't buy happiness.

I have to remain grateful that Mom is still watching over the whole family and me in these little moments.

I know she will never let me fail, that the money problems will go away and that I am still here because there are still lessons I need to learn, and God wants me to be here.

God, I’m grateful.

Thank you to my niece and for today's unexpected message.
