Lamborghini’s previous electric models

Alright, buckle up! I’m about to take you on a ride through Lamborghini’s previous hybrid cars. Get ready for a fusion of power, speed, and environmental consciousness!

Lamborghini, known for its wild and aggressive supercars, decided to dip its toes into the world of hybrid vehicles. The Italian automaker realized that even speed demons like themselves had to consider the environment. So, they embarked on a journey to create some incredible hybrid machines.

One of Lamborghini’s noteworthy hybrid ventures was the Lamborghini Asterion. Unveiled in 2014 at the Paris Motor Show, the Asterion was like a futuristic spaceship on wheels.

An all-electric Lamborghini?

Lamborghini is getting ready to unleash its first electric car, and it’s not going to be your typical supercar or SUV. Nope, they’re taking a different approach this time.

Instead of just swapping out the engine of an existing car and slapping in some electric motors and batteries, Lamborghini is going all out with an all-new electric model. Mitja Borkert, the head of design at Lamborghini, spilled the beans to AutoExpress, revealing that the new car is nicknamed “a spaceship GT.”

And don’t worry, it’s still going to scream “Lamborghini” from every angle. Borkert emphasized that the design DNA of the brand will be fully preserved, and the new car won’t step on the toes of their other models.

Now, this move shouldn’t come as a shocker. Lamborghini has been quite vocal about their commitment to keeping their engines alive for as long as possible.

After all, they’ve just rolled out their latest flagship supercar, the hybrid Revuelto, and they’re not even launching the hybrid version of their Urus SUV until 2024. So, it’s safe to say that Lamborghini isn’t in any rush to jump headfirst into full electrification.

When it comes to the technical details, the all-electric Lamborghini will be built on the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) developed by its parent company, the Volkswagen Group. And guess what? This platform is going to be shared with other big names in the group.

The next-gen Porsche Taycan and Panamera will also use the SSP, and it’s highly likely that Audi’s e-tron GT will join the party too. They’re all part of the electric family!

Just like the Lamborghini Urus already shares a lot of its hardware with the Audi RS Q8, the upcoming electric models will follow a similar path. This means that the first Lamborghini EV could be a sleek and stylish GT car, possibly rocking a 2+2 seating configuration with a couple of snug rear seats.

Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, echoed the sentiment, telling AutoExpress that now is not the ideal time for a fully electric sports car from Lamborghini. They’re playing it smart and strategically.

But here’s the exciting part: the SSP isn’t just for Lamborghini. It’s a versatile platform designed to cater to various vehicles within the VW family. That includes not only Lamborghini, Porsche, and Audi but also Bentley, Cupra, Seat, Skoda, and Volkswagen.

The SSP is slated for production in 2026 and will feature an 800-volt architecture, allowing for lightning-fast charging at up to 350 kW. That means less time waiting and more time zooming.
