Abstract

Joe’s Value: Dependable Experience

I’ve been hearing a lot about how old Joe Biden is. I don’t hear as much about how old his predecessor/opponent is though. If Biden is too old, doesn’t that mean that the other guy is also too old? Now before anyone gets all het up about me disparaging his favorite rooster, you should know that I don’t hold age against anyone. I look at if a person is capable. So, there are a few things that demonstrate the difference between 45 and 46 for me.

Name recognition

Biden has long been known as the man who took the train home every night he could so his kids could have as normal a life as possible. Biden earned his name recognition through service. Over 35 years as Senator. Then 8 years as Vice President. Young Senator Biden was a loyalist and sang the most popular company songs of his time. He made mistakes as a human being. But he has suffered tragedy in his life. His has not been a life of privilege. In reality, he has ground it out. Maybe because that’s all he knew how to do or maybe for reasons which are just unfathomable.

That other guy, well, he has name recognition too. He worked hard to make sure his name was recognized to the point of his name itself becoming the commodity, or would that be a service? Anyway, his name had such value that he played his name on television. But alas, his fame and wealth were bestowed upon him. He was born into privilege. His experience is more show business, not politics so much, and it really is not in business, business. Not that there is anything untoward about his actual profession of showman, but it is not politics, and contrary to his claims of international financial guru-dom, he’s been more of a failure than success.

Experience counts

Joe Biden easily has 40 years of experience in the highest level of government. The other guy really doesn’t have very much governmental experience. I mean, four years as opposed to 40 years? The reason I think experience is important for the office of President is because we are shaped by our experiences in many ways. Experience acts as a map which we follow in much the same way that AI can use experience to anticipate future action through experience. For example, spell check AI notices if you use a name a lot in your writing, it will pop that name up as a spell choice every chance it gets. It is hardly that deliberate about it, but it is that dependable. So are we humans. Our biocomputers operate with the same hierarchical program protocols as the silicon and vacuum tube computers. Experience seems to be one of the most influential programming agents in life, and of the two men in question, Biden has dependable experience, and therefore his other-than-conscious programming is also dependable. Meanwhile, his opponent markets his name to his army of mindless shadow orcs who are really a scold of angry jays squawking about life in the Shire as being too horrible to imagine.

That’s why I like people with experience as decision makers in tense situations. People who have dealt with emergencies are prepared and can think calmly about how to turn the tenseness to resolution. If age could count as a plus, then I have to consider Biden’s experience to be an overwhelming check in the warlord management department. The other guy thinks he is a warlord and he just ain’t got the papers to show that pedigree. That guy is a Nouveau-riche Jr. Birdman whose feathers have been singed in every business deal he’s ever tried to do. He’s had success, but even much of the success he’s had is more smoke and mirrors and snake oil claims than substance. I have no doubt that he would have been better off if he had not tried to become something he clearly is not. The way I heard this one was, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

Relationship with People

One thing you have to give Joe Biden, he stops and talks to people. He shows his age pretty regularly. He should, he’s old enough. But he also shows his experience because he stops and talks to people. That other fellow only talks about himself. Even when he is talking about people, he judges them in relation to his idea of himself. “Muslims don’t like our religion, so they can stay out”, he says. That’s not about Muslims. It’s about his fear of the unknown. There’s a lot in government that 45 missed. 46 has been there and done that. Over and over. That’s why his experience can be trusted, while 45 does not have enough time in the office to be trusted. None of that is disqualifying, but his ignorance of the job and the myriad decisions which anyone who does that job, will be expected to leave holes in where he can be trusted. Not that he is particularly untrustworthy, but ignorance lacks the knowledge born of experience. We all have to hope that more than half of the decisions made by that office holder will be the best ones for all of us.

International conflict

Joe Biden has seen war. He became a Senator before the war in Vietnam ended. He was a Senator when the World Trade Center towers fell in New York. He didn’t go there and has not claimed to have been present when they fell. He watched the entire Afghanistan debacle. Both the Russian version and the American version. He watched the Berlin Wall fall. He watched Stalinist Russia collapse and the Putin Russia come to be.

His opponent accused some black kids of doing something they didn’t do, pretty much because they were black kids. He also founded a university which did not teach anything. He tried to convince people he grew or at least sold the best steaks, the likes of which the world has never seen. He leveraged what he had to open a casino which did not make money. Now, that one takes talent. In other words, 45’s most glaring talent is screwing up wet dreams.
