The Great News
Medium offers a new opportunity to storytellers opening a writing competition. It is similar to the Vocal Media competitions that we introduced before. However, Medium offering is at a much grander scale. It includes a total $100,000 and the grand prize is $50,000.
As communicated via the Medium official blog, Medium invites all storytellers in a new writing challenge.
Here are the summaries of challenges based on information provided in the Medium official blog.
Challenge 1: Reentry
For this challenge, you can share your experience for specific events featuring “coming back”. Describe your emotions, including joy, discomfort, and funny moments related to change.
When you join this challenge, you need to use the tag “MWC Reentry.”
Your stories will be evaluated by Imani Perry, Julio Vincent Gambuto, Saeed Jones, Jude Ellison Doyle.
Challenge 2: Death
For this challenge, you can share your experience related to death. Your story can reflect how you perceive and death experiences.
In addition, you may share your emotions, such as grief and joy related to death.
When you join this challenge, you need to use the tag “MWC Death”.
Your stories will be evaluated by Susan Orlean, Robert Kolker, Kelly Corrigan, Eve L. Ewing.
Challenge 3: Work
For this challenge, you can share your work experiences. You may tell a story about how you see your work.
You may elaborate on what work means to you. You may describe your dream jobs and link them to your future goals.
When you join this challenge, you need to use the tag “MWC Work”.
Your stories will be evaluated by Roxane Gay, Kurt Andersen, David Dennis, Jr.
Challenge 4: Space
The purpose of this challenge is to share your stories related to space. You can define and describe the concept of space.
You may include your personal space and how you see space for communities and society. Social distancing is an excellent example of this stream.
When you join this challenge, you need to use the tag “MWC Space”.
Deadlines
You have almost a month to participate in these challenges. The deadline is August 24, 2021.
Pre-requisites
Your stories must comply with the Medium Rules and Medium’s Distribution Standards.
In addition, you need to be at least 18 years to participate.
Conditions
You can propose one entry per prompt. So you can write a total of four stories.

Assessment Criteria
Creativity — 40%
Originality — 30%
Writing quality — 30%
Prizes
The Grand prize for the finalist is $50,000.
Four finalists each will receive $10,000.
One hundred honorable mentions will each receive $100.
Total prizes for this initiative includes $100,000.
Announcement of Finalists
Medium will select four finalists.
The announcement will be made on September 21, 2021.
The grand prize winner announcement will be made on September 23, 2021.
